I am not even talking about the new bike. Running shoes every 3-4 months,  shorts, tops, dri fit socks, biking shoes, helmet, race fees, etc etc.

I am talking about the medical part. Jock itch, butt chafing and heat rash. Seems my time in the bathroom after a shower has added a extra 15-20 mins just to treat all my ailments.

I had less aches and pains when I was a fat slug on the couch, that is for sure.

This sport is cheap when you compare it to how much heart attacks go for these days though.

Isn't it great to get the whole package deal?  You definitely get the good with the bad when it comes to exercising, but it's worth it in the long run.  As far as apparel, I look for sale items.  Some expos have a lot of gear pretty cheap.  But you have to be careful- some expos are the same price as stores.  But...once you get into training more you'll learn how to prepare your body for longer workouts and prevent some of the issues you're experiencing.  Good luck!

Not to mention trips to the PT when you shred your hamstring and "have" to get it working again (because, you know, being a BoPer, I can't have any time off the program due to injury).

Still and all, I know that I am physically able to do whatever I am required to do now, be it walk to the car or go help my parents dig out of this hurricane mess. Three years ago as a fat slug on the couch, I never could've said that. So it's worth it. And anyway, it's a very important life lesson to know about BodyGlide and its proper application.

Yes it is, I sold my Fender Telecaster and amp to get my tri bike. And the rest one thing at a time.

You guys are all funny! :-) I like to think that fitness is priceless once you are in shape. And a PT visit is much less costlier than all the bad food you eat as couch potato and the hospital visits when you get older, after a life time of keeping that weight on your poor limbs - be happy you are fit and enjoy it! Keep up the good work!

Let's not forget the biweekly massages at $125 a pop.

Open Heart Surgery =$85K + six months to a year for your wired-together sternum to heal and for your body to recover from the trauma of surgery.
Been there, done that.
At least mine was for a fixable problem (valve replacement, rather than a by-pass for clogged arteries...).
