Yeah I figured with the new addition you might have dropped off the training a tiny bit!

I was hoping you'd say sub 1:08 so I could sit on your heels. Sub 1:02 though...not even for 1 mile!

How about going for sub 1:40 and you can run with me.  It would be fun, I swear!

BikerGrrrl - 2011-07-29 1:34 PM I wasn't super excited about this before, but I was looking at the course info yesterday and I am now jazzed.

Question for the vets:   How early do I really need to get to the dome, including if I want to drop a sweat bag?   I tend to arrive far too early at running races, I guess it's the triathlete in me wanting to set something up.  This one is early, so I am angling to sleep in a little.

I always park at Fort Snelling and take the train to the metrodome. It runs about every 15 minutes I think and I typically get there about a half hour before the start. That is more than enough time if you need to use the restroom, drop off a bag, etc.

I also got the packet.  As I posted on Facebook, I nearly threw it away because it looked like junk mail.  I am kind of ruthless when it comes to recycling the mail, so I am glad I caught on to what it was.

I have a logistical effort ahead of me trying to find a way for my husband to pick me up at the end.   I decided he's going to both drop me off and pick me up (and maybe cheer somewhere).

Is there a spot nearish the finish that is good for getting picked up?  I am thinking somewhere easily identifiable (a corner or a business) that he can stop for a minute while I jump in and maybe drive around a few times without getting caught in traffic, if I am not there right away?  I wish I had been to the finish line of this event before, but I am totally clueless.  I see a "family meeting area" on the finish area map, but I assume that's for folks who are parked and will walk in.

I don't plan on having a cell phone, so I want to make sure we have a solid plan.  I don't want to ask him to park because ideally we will drive back to another spot on the course to watch the marathon.

Another question: I am in Corral 4 - Does anyone happen to know what the pace ranges are per corral?  I am wondering if I need to find the front.   I know I am not a championship runner, but my time should put me mid-pack based on previous results.   For instance, a finisher last year around my time finished 3419/7019.  Seems kind of crazy to be in Corral 4...

My wife just did the Chicago half marathon. Finished top 33% overall and top 22% of all women, and she is in Corral 3 of the ten miler and that was a subpar race for her. She is a bit bummed as well.

I really only know the finish area well as I'm backtracking - I don't know the "ins-and-outs" all around the finish. I don't know if this is THEE best idea, but if I were in your shoes, I'd finish and walk back along the race course up the hill to the Cathedral. It's just under a half mile to Selby and Summit (where the Cathedral is). You could walk a few blocks west on Selby and agree to meet him at an intersection there. During the 10 Mile, Selby's not too full (it fills up for marathon cheering about 2 hours later). It's easy to get to off 94: just exit on Dale, go south a few blocks to Selby, and go east under a mile until he finds you!

My family always parks near the Cathedral to cheer for the 10 mile and then to wait to cheer for the marathon runners, so I always do this very same "backtrack" up the hill after the race. It's not a bad walk!

Oh, and my wife is now in Marathon Corral 4, and they only used to have 2 Corrals. I think they may have added more to both races. Just my assumption...

my partner dropped me off at the 5th ave and 4th st last year, but i dont use a bag drop at the dome.  then she went and parked at the sears parking lot.  it is about 2-3 blocks from finish.  Not quite the "quick pickup" your looking for, but i think street traffic is pretty blocked off.  The closest one might get is rice st up to the "medtronic granstand" on the map.  or University Ave.  However how badly tore up is University with the whole light rail construction.

as far as corrals go.... the only info i have for that is that the 5th corral is by far the biggest and most crowded.  with that being said, especially since you say you like to arrive early, I would try to be near the front of your barrier.  I just dont like being boxed in by the whole crowd. Thats my preference, mainly cuz i am not used to the masses running together.

I gave them a 55 minute 10k time for corral placement, and I'm in the 3rd.  For what it's worth, I'm planning on running a little under 10 minute miles.  I don't know how accurate the corral placement is, and if what I'm planning is going to be avg. for my corral.

A trend I've noticed, in my short time doing running races, is that most people tend to go out way too fast for the first few miles, which then screws up the corral idea.  I would say if you're concerned you'll be held up by all the people in your corral, then try to start near the front.  Chances are alot of fools will pass you in the first mile, then you'll see them all walking around mile 5.  Or maybe not, and you'll be in a perfect place not to get held up by the crowds.

Thanks everyone!  Steve - I had thought about backtracking to the Cathedral before, so thanks for reminding me.   It will be a little bit later than what you're used to, but should still work.   That means I have walk uphill though..

i've done the 10 5 times and always park in Sears lot then bus it to the start.  I've been there as far in advance as an hour and a little as running from the dome drop off to get there just before the horn blew!  Then when done, it's really easy to just walk a block to car and go.

Re: corral placement - I've been in 4, 2 and 1!  I've never been faster than a 9/mile so I have NO idea to how the reasoning goes for placement.  Though I did drop back to corral 3 with friends when I was placed in 1 - seriously I was NO WAY going to start in that with the fast fast people!

I'm now regretting that I signed up for the full instead of the 10 - hip issues and I don't want to post a DNF but I have no idea how this is going to happen.

I'm in corral 2 (somehow-I'm still convinced I'm not a runner), and think I put in for 48 or 50 minutes for my 10K time. Also, I think I'm going to park near the dome and wait for the busses afterwards. Is that a bad idea?

That's what I'm planning on.  We're staying at the Holiday Inn just down the street from the dome, so I think we'll just leave our car there.  My wife is doing the full, so after I'm done with the 10 mile I'll take the bus back to the dome and walk down and get my car, then drive back over to St. Paul and park somewhere near the finish.

You can do it!!!!   I know you can!....  Even if it's really hard.

"Just a gentle morning Jog"  will be my choice phrase for my mental motivational auto-loop.  Smile
Hope to see ya there!

Looking forward to actually trying to do some faster running attempts for this race. Might need every day of the next 19 days to get healed up and be ready from IM. Looking forward to hopefully seeing many of you there.

Got into corral 1. FWIW, I park in one of the garages in St Paul on 7th St and then walk the 1/2 mile to the bus pickup on Kellogg Ave. It's worth the $7 to me to get out of there easily and it's a short walk from the capitol to the garage.

Sorry, dude!  I am always incredulous about the people who have run it many years in a row.  My experience is more like yours    Well, now you should start trying again because didn't we hear that it's a guaranteed entry after 3 times starting this year?

I hadn't heard that! Are you saying that after 3 times of trying and NOT getting in that you're in for sure? Or are you saying that once you've run it for 3 times that you're in for life?
