Anyone else ever had a suntan lotion "brown" a jersey, or made the upper arm "face wipe" marks stand out 10-fold after washing?

Both the wife and I have had jerseys stained, after washing, in weird ways....  We've never had this problem before, and have washed both jerseys prior.  Her's had a sportsbra outline area that has no staining on the back, and mine was primarily the cuffs and where the faint "face wipe" marks were and just got amplified.  Different brand jerseys, no staining items in the wash, etc.

Yep, the white parts on my tri club kit are looking kind of dingy after 2 seasons of racing. Time for a new kit!

Change brands of sunscreens.  Certain brands and formulas seem to brown the whites much more than others and some don't seem to do it at all.  I have found Coppertone Sport (blue bottle) will not to brown whites at all where as the oil free Coppertone (in the white bottle) will completely ruin white clothing after the first use.

I beg to differ. I have that blue bottle of SPF-50 and it stained two white T-shirts right away.

Was it the spray kind of sunscreen??  That stuff has a warning on it.  It has stained a few of my wifes swim suits.

Interesting.  I have a feeling it also has something to do with the mineral content in the water where you live.  I am on well water that has a very high iron content.  The blue Coppertone Sport never stains where as the white bottle completely ruins cloths for me.

Same advise goes though.  Try a different sunscreen as all of the formulas are a bit different.

If you do get stains from sunscreen on your white jerseys, wash them with a bar of Ivory soap.  Just wet the jersey, rub the bar all over the jersey, scrub a bit between your hands, and watch that nasty orange stain run down the drain!

I am on well water with iron too and the blue Coppertone destroyed some white shirts, I switched to Banana Boat and all is well

I had a running jacket in my swim bag and a bottle of coppertone lotion spilled.  It was a horrible brown stain on my off-white jacket.  I washed it over and over and it didn't come out.  Finally I sprayed it with Greased Lightnin' and let it soak for 10 minutes or so.  Then I washed it and it almost all came out.  I wonder if I had used the Greased Lightnin' when it 1st happened if it may have all come out?  You could try it.  Some of my jerseys have turned yellow under the armpits and the Greased Lightnin' has gotten that all out.
