Looking forward to this race.  It should be a great venue for a tri.  Who else is in?

I'm registered.  I haven't been to Captiva yet, so I'm really looking forward to it.  Heard it's beautiful!

Of course I'm in!  My coach and her friend are putting it on.  Should be a blast.

Does this give you a time advantage?

Who's ready?  I'll be heading down Saturday morning to Sanibel and going to packet pick-up that afternoon.  Wish I could make the Friday evening dinner but my high school is hosting 2 football games that night.  We play the first game against the #1 team in the nation.

I'll be there all day Saturday volunteering for the kids sprint then setting up for Sunday's sprint.  Going for a short swim, ride and run on Saturday.

Have fun!

Wish I was there, but I ran my first last week and taking on another might be overdoing it.  I cannot say how the race will be, but my wife, kids and I go to Captiva/Sanibel every year for vacation.  It is awesome, it is very bike fiendly and the water is clear an not rough.  You guys are going to have a blast.  If you are staying in a hotel, I recommend the Residence Inn.

Just got my race day haircut, so now I'm aero and ready to go!  Hope to see some BTers tomorrow.  I'll be the big guy (6'5" 250 lbs.) in the yellow and black RYDER BIKES tri suit.

What a great race.  Couldn't have picked a better location.  Took 2nd in my age group too!  Yahoo!

Mark your calendars because next year will sell out even quicker.

Agreed, great race and location.  Had a few wrinkles but that's expected with a first year event.  Look forward to racing there again.

Did anyone else use a GPS on the swim?  Mine had the swim at .52 of a mile, over twice as far as the advertised 400 yards.

Race report is up: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=268879

Didn't use a GPS on the swim, but that's interesting.  It seemed longer than the advertised 1/4 mile and I heard others say that as well, but I wouldn't have guessed that much further.

Agreed!  Scenic and enjoyable venue.

I felt the swim was real close to the 440 yds. reported

Still not sure why they arranged and started the waves they way they did.  It ended up creating unsafe congestion in the water and some precarious passing on the bike.  I have a hunch the resort wanted every finished by a certain time...

Nevertheless, a memorable race and weekend!

I know GPS is not that reliable in the water, especially since the unit was on my wrist and would lose signal on every stroke, but I swam a fairly straight course so I would expect a distance of .25-.30 not a .52.

I guess you'd have to ask yourself if it's more realistic for you to swim 1 mile in under 21 minutes or that same mile in around 40 minutes. I use a 310XT and when I swim in open water it measures my distance pretty close to the known distance, although my course line looks no where near as straight as yours!!

Unfortunately they had to close the roads so the thought was, get the slower people out first.  Did create a little blockage.  Maybe next year she can get the road kept open longer.

Not sure exactly how many but there were at least 100 people that this was their first triathlon.  What a great first race!

Thanks

Duane

I didn't know about this race - Captiva is my favorite place in the world!  I'll have to look into it for next year.
