I used Don Fink's Be Iron Fit plan for IMCdA and it worked well for me.  I searched a LOT before settling on his plan.  I like how it's time based and he throws in some interval training inside each workout.

I am considering a HIM in early Nov and was curious how you guys would adapt his IM plan for the HIM.  All things being equal (assume I'm the same fitness in my s/b/r) would you cut the times in 1/2?  1/3 the times?  Somewhere in between?

I am by no means an expert on how to train, but I just did the first 22 weeks which is where he had an HIM in the plan.  I dropped about an hour off the long bikes but otherwise kept everything the same.  I made up my own taper starting about 2 weeks out.

I really liked the plan, but kind of wish he had one specifically for HIM.

Just do the whole plan as is.  You'll certainly be ready for a HIM!

Been there done that (for both the HIM and IM).

I did his plan for IMCdA and did FL70.3 at the 24(?) week point as suggested.  I was more than ready for the HIM.  Am looking for ideas on how to focus more on the shorter distance to gain some speed.  I think I have some ideas but wanted to vacillate my thoughts here.

I'm in the same boat. Just finished IMLP and I have the montauk him in about nine weeks. Hoping to find some info in some of the responses here. I followed the intermediate BIF plan and I think it worked out really well for me. One of the things I really like about him training is that the longest rides are usually three hours as opposed to the 6 + hour suffer fests I've been doing.

This is kind of a loaded question and really depends on your race goals. I've been using the Don Fink plans for IM distance, but would not use it for HIM without some serious tweaking. Keep in mind both volume and intensity. Cutting back the DF plans will still give you quite a bit of volume, but, if your goals are to race the HIM, you may be lacking on the intensity side.

There are a lot of HIM-specific plans in circulation. Why not take a look at some of those and use them to tweak the Be Iron Fit workouts while maintaining the same basic structure?

+1

Except no sarcasm intended.  Might add just a touch more relative Z4 time, but Fink IM Program volume is not unreasonable for HIM if you want to improve your time.  I'm doing Fink Intermediate IM now & ran PB 5k race last weekend despite little speed work this year.  Don't think I'm alone in observing that increasing training volume, even without much speed work, tends to improve performance.
