Hey, my folks are still available to help, in whatever way makes sense, now that you've tracked down lodging.  Not sure you'd want the grandmama clothing ...but once you get down there, if there's anything at all you need, call me (248) 705-8204.  I'll get you in touch with my folks, who, at this point, are unscathed and operating normally - and have resources to help as necessary.  Don't hesitate to call, please.

Rick

Brandy,

So glad to hear that you found some housing! I've been lurking on this thread, not really knowing how to help since I don't have any contacts down there, so I'm glad that I can now be of use!

As far as what you need for clothing.... what size are you? And would it be better to send clothes or send something like some sort of gift cards?

I should be able to get something out to you by the end of this week!

I am a size 6 and a small, but I am sharing a house with about 8 other people. Some women are shorter and larger, some are shorter and smaller, etc.. There is one baby girl, and one boy and one girl that is elemetary school aged. There are two men.

Whatever is easiest on you guys, we are just appreciative of anything, and we would hate to think that you guys were put out too much doing this.

Thanks again everyone.

Also, whatever we at the house can not use will be distrubuted to other hurricane victims.

What gift cards would be the most useful/convenient for you?  I'm thinking that might be the most expeditious way to get something out to you.

Brandy,

You just made my day, A BABY GIRL!! I have two girls, 3 and 6, and a bunch of things I've been trying to donate. So, I will be sending all kinds of baby stuff, some golf shirts for the guys, and then I'll start cleaning out my wife's closet.

Good Luck,
Jay

is there a Target nearby? They have everything! I'd be happy to send a few gift cards-- how about books for kids or grown ups? They are heavy but the book rate is pretty cheap (for mailing). Let us know...

Does anyone know how to ship items as cheap as possible? I have towels, sheets, blankets, jeans, shirts that I've cleared out of my closets, ready to ship but the UPS shipping estimate is ~ $140. A bit pricey for me. I'd could send a gift card, but it won't buy near as much stuff as I have to ship.

Are you sending it overnight, or ground?  Have you checked the USPS rates?  It might take a bit longer to get there, but would probably be significantly cheaper.

I did a search for Target's in the area, and there was one that seemed to be about 17 miles away... not sure if that was convenient to get to or not, though, not knowing what the transportation situation is like.

Oh geez. DUH. BFO - blinding flash of the obvious. USPS is about $20. No brainer.

Brandy, I need to box it up and ship it. I'll try to get it posted to you by tomorrow. Should be about 4 days once posted. Lots of size 6 and 8 jeans and shorts, all in immaculate condition. Tshirts and some blouses. Towels and linens. I'll toss in some Clif Bars for ya' too. Hang in there.

Hi Brandye,

I just about to box up some clothes to give to goodwill, but I'd rather send them out your way. I'll get a box out this weekend, I'll check with my sister also she has a son that's in 3rd grade, but may have some old clothes as well.

Glad to hear your safe and found a roof over your head..

Ok, just put a gift card in the mail to you.  I sure wish I could send more.  When I left my ex, I left behind a lot of "stuff", and since I've been living here, I haven't bought a lot of stuff, so I don't have much in the way of clothing or house-hold items to send.

I figured cash would be better for getting things you need that you can't get at the donation centers.

Brandy,

Some gift cards are headed out your way now - you should be seeing them mid next week sometime.  Keep them or share them with the others in your house - whatever fits your needs.  Hope it helps a little and let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Laura.

Hi Brandy,

Putting a box in the mail for you tomorrow--baby clothes mostly, but some women's too. Hope it helps!

We just got done with Hurricane Ophelia--thankfully nothing like Katrina. Still made a mess, though. Hang in there.

Is there any place around here that I can run/bike/ows? I can tell that mentally, I need to start training again.

Brandy, we have some awesome roads up on Peairs Rd. and s;ightly north, especially early in day and on weekends. You can get 35-50 miles easily. You can run on our road. Duvall is a little busy with traffic frm Sullivan. Open water is a problem. We swim at Crawish, and our friend that rides and runs with us is an olympic/LSU swimmer. We can get you a membership fo r very little and you can train with us.

Llewigi's wife.

I am a fellow new orleanian and have not been back to my home as well. I am lucky because my house remained dry, but I am not allowed to go back yet. I was feeling rather depressed today for the first time and reading about all the help offerings has brightened my day. People have been completely awesome about helping out. I left my bike in New Orleans and registered for Ironman Arizona, 2 weeks before the storm. I was really worried about training (thankfully this was a good thing to keep my mind from the aftermath of the storm) and found the people in Atlanta to be really kind. The local tri group sent an email on my behalf to all the members and I was able to purchase a bike at a great deal. Thanks to everyone for making tragedies like this bearable!
