Aw, heck--wish I lived closer. I've got a spare room and bath you could use for a few months, say until the end of the year, but it's waaay over here in North Carolina. For what it's worth, all universities here are letting  Katrina-survivor students register, I think for free.

Too bad it's not here ... a friend of mine in the military is being deployed and her house will be vacant for a bit. I'll check with her to see if she knows anyone in that area.

Allright, Brandy, I have a possibility at this point!!  My folks live in Baton Rouge and have a house that might just work...the question I have for them is have they committed to taking people in already - and I'll know that tomorrow.  The other thing is...I'm not sure if it's close enough to public transport for you - they're in the burbs.

Soooo... I called 'em.  They said that if they have the room, and it's close to transport, that they'd be delighted!!!  They'll find out if they have a room tomorrow.  If they do, I'll reply back here with my phone - we can talk - and get you in touch with them directly to see about the transporation, etc.

Great Great Great NEWS!!!

My work called me back and said that someone back out and they now have room for me. Tomorrow I will be on a Greyhound bus headed for Baton Rouge. My boss's boss own a 3 bedroom rental house that sits on 1.5 acres so they put two RV's on there. They will be putting 2 people in each RV. I think I'll be sharing my RV with this older lady which is just dandy with me. There will be 7 people total, and I've been told that all of them have cars, so I'll be able to carpool with them. This is working out. I feel much better being in control and having a plan.

Yes, I will, and I'm guessing that the other 6 women on the property will need lots of things too. When I get the address I will post it here. Anything that we can't use I will distribute to others. There will be a lot of refugees in Baton Rouge that I am sure will be able to use all kinds of stuff.

I'm glad you have a place to call home...at least temporarily.  I'm sure stuff will start arriving soon. Any specific things that you need...clothes, personal items...

I am in particular need of clothing. I only thought I would be gone for one maybe two days, and packed accordingly. Never did I really think that I would lose everything except the few pieces that I took with me.
