I havent done anything cardio but im ready now. AllIve been doing every morning is use the bowflex and a p90x type of workout.  Going for 1st easy run this morning and then will slowly get back into it this weekend. Sunday I plan on riding a monster hill. Its about 1.2 mi straight up and there isnt a flat spot to rest anywhere on it...I only made it 6 out of 8x last year. Am interested to see where my legs are now compared to then.

I swam yesterday and I plan on running today.  Not sure how far I'll get but we will see.  The swimming seemed to go better then I thought.

Speaking of photos...anyone see any local photogs who are selling race start photos? In the past I have purchased a blown up photo of the start from Point of View Gallery. It had the official IMLP and year logo imprinted on it. I have 08 and 10 hanging on my wall. The problem is the guy didn't make it to the deck and he got a picture maybe 3 mins in after the mayhem had gone past. I didn't like it and didn't want to spend the $$ on it. The ones from Finisherpix aren't bad, just need to figure out how to get them blown up with the 2012 logo on it. Anyone see anything like this? Would like to keep the streak alive and get one from every year.

We stayed at Northwoods this year.  It wasn't what I expected from the "host" hotel, and although I've heard from friends who visit throughout the year that some of the rooms are renovated, ours didn't look like it had been touched since the 70's.  On the plus side it was clean and in a great location.  I reserved on Aug 5 last year and had the same problem finding a place.  Have a great race!

If you want to stay in LP then you will want to start as soon as possible.  You will find that a lot of places are full early.  Though in 2013 after the official date that you can cancel and still get some kind of race refund you will see that a few spots open up.  if you are not worried about staying in LP (Pros and Cons to both)  then I would suggest staying in Saranac (This is what I did, rented a cottage on Lake Flower).  I had the whole family come and a couple extra people so I needed the extra space.  if it's just the immediate family then a normal hotel type room would work.  Good luck in 2013, I won't be racing but I'll be volunteering, and then signing up again for 2014 for my revenge race.  So I'll be following everybody's journey.  Hmm I wonder can I start a 2014 thread?

No bother at all, I know how you feel.  I felt the same way last year when trying to find a spot that met all our requirements.  One of the nice things about staying in Saranac is that it didn't seem to fill up as quickly so you could keep looking for spots and then go back to that area if you don't find what you need in LP.  It's a 17 minute drive to the Oval and there was no traffic race morning, also they don't close route 86 so people could come and go if they didn't want to wait the 14 hours for me.  (it worked out well for the my little ones that couldn't handle standing for that long, they went back to the cottage for a few hours and then came back to see me finish  ).  These were the two sites we used mostly.

wow...thanks for the info....As much as I am concerned about training, I am concerned about my family hanging out for all those hours so its nice to hear that they can drive on the main road....I have 2 kids who will be 9 and 4 at the time so if it makes it easier for the family to go back and forth through the day, that would be great.....I have been up there a few time (non tri related) and I was thinking that everything would be in lockdown not allowing any movement.....i will check out those sites...thanks again

I stayed with my family at the Crowne Plaza-right next to the transition area and LOVED it! Since I signed up late and all were booked, I was shocked to be able to get a spot there later in the year-some people must have cancelled or something. We had a view of the Lake out our back window and on race day, my family walked back to the hotel several times to chillax and check my race out online using the athletetracker I was wearing. The cell coverage was spotty and the free wifi was nice using our laptop.

(Hi Jason!! I don't think we'll make 200 pages...)

This thread was instrumental to my success and I, too, wanted to thank everyone who partipated and shared such great information.

Many thanks to you all.

There is still time.... it can be done... must not let go of the magical time.  Staying in LP would have been nice for the little ones to go back and forth, though I would have needed a bunch of rooms and that could have gotten real expensive.  86 going towards Saranac is the only road I think that is pretty much open into LP.  The rest of the roads around LP are either closed or one way traffic which caused a bunch of backups.  Parking is not the best in LP so the family was able to hit some of the designated parking areas and take the shuttle.  My kids were 7 and 8 and they didn't mind the shuttle (It's like riding the school bus at home).  They were able to leave and come back 2 or 3 times throughout the day (as long as they stayed on 86 going out towards Saranac).  Definitely the cell coverage is not the best because about 20,000 people are using there cell phones, so the wife couldn't track me as well with the GPS unit but the friends and family at home loved it,  I would recommend it,  plus they did the live video at the finish so I had some friends who actually saw me cross the finish line which I wasn't expecting but it was very cool to see.

So I finally got around to putting together my race report. It is honestly pretty boring, but it does have pictures!

I have gotten in several swims and one 2 hour bike. Going for a longer ride tomorrow, but still no running for a few more days. Thanks for everything - the support and camaraderie in this thread has been awesome - I look forward to the 2013 thread - we will have a lot to live up to!

I just started some light running and biking on wed. Felt great to be doing it on fresh legs again. Other than that Ive been doing the bowflex and a p90x kind of thing. I Know nobody really cares...but its 1 post closer to pg 200

Anyone thinking about getting a tattoo? I always said I would...now that I've done the race Im not sure the tat is that important to me. I dont think I need it keep the memory of the accomplishment alive...just thinking out loud.

I have done a couple swims, 1 run and this morning 1 bike.  It hasn't helped that the eating hasn't stopped but I'm working on that piece now.   I have thinking about getting a tattoo as well.  I'm' working with a friend of mine who went to school for graphic artist.  I have a design in my head I just need to get it out.  I don't have any tattoo's at this point,  I always wanted a good reason to do one, and I can't think of anything better at this point.

Now if they had a Tattoo artist at the finish line I would have probably gotten one on the spot... though come to think about it I'm glad they didn't becuase my tattoo would have probably said "No More Biking" but backwards, and upside down.
