I already have a tattoo on my foot, but just added another Mdot for Lake Placid.  Now, lets see if I can figure out how to add the picture......

Nope, it says that it is too big.  I'm not very good at this!  I have a pic, but don't know how to share it.

So glad you got another one to add to the M dot vine! I just opened the thread to see if anyone else besides me got inked.   I went traditional. Red M Dot outlined in black above my right ankle.  I am quite poor at linking pix also - I think you click on the attach file, browse your files to find the pic then select it.  You may have to resize the picture if it's too big.... congrats on your addtition!

Hey!! Not sure how many people are still hanging around this board...probably not too many, but I have a question.

My recovery doesn't seem to be going too well. Today was my second attempt since the Ironman to run. As soon I as start to run, my chest tightens up and I feel somewhat short of breath. A couple minutes into my run, my heart rate spikes up to 165+ and remains there (and I am going SLOW right now). In training, my heart rate hardly ever went above 160 with Z4 efforts, and on average, it was in the 130's during Z2 runs.

Now, I feel awful, light headed, headachy, dizzy, and woozy. I am trying to make it through work today. These symptoms have occurred with biking as well. I took the whole week off following the Ironman, and just started light/easy workouts last week.

Is this normal or should I be concerned? I was severely dehydrated after the race and was in the med tent for 1 hour getting IVs. Not sure if that matters. My husband raced as well, and is not having these same symptoms. I just wanted to hear from others who finished the Ironman.

Thanks!

No, Annie - that does not sound normal. I wouldn't be too terribly worried based on the description of your time in the med tent, but at the same time I would get in to see my primary care physician ASAP  (mine is a sports doc) just to get a check up. You can feel the residual effects of IM for quite a while even when it goes well. And FWIW, I still haven't run a step since IMLP, and probably won't for at least a few more days. I have swam and ridden my bike a bit, and I still feel it. Good luck, and let us know how it goes?

Thanks guys! My brother (who's a doctor) actually freaked me out telling me that there's a possibility of a pulmonary embolism or something of that nature and told me to get medical attention asap. So, I actually went to the ER just to be safe. They ran blood work, EKG, and did a chest x-ray. Nothing abnormal with those tests.

Still feeling pretty crappy. But I was advised to follow up for further cardiac testing, because it's not "normal" to have such a response with exertion. Hopefully I will get this figured out. Just frustrating, because as all of you can attest, as type A triathletes, I just want to get slowly going again. It's hard for me to take a step back, but I really need to!

Nice tattoo cornick...I like the tri logo under it. I think Im going to do a variation of the one Major BC posted with the mtns and trees in it. Just started talking to a cpl shops this week.

Been doing a little s/b/r 4-5x a week. Feels nice to be on fresh legs again. Ive also been doing a p90x kind of thing. I think I lost 8-10lbs those last 2 months...and I think it was mostly muscle from not working out for 3-4 months.

Thank you for the well wishes.Rumors of my demise were greatly exaggerated...I have a fracture of T1 (compression) so now I'm evenShorter-sigh, a minimally displaced distal left clavicular fracture (almost aCarbon copy of Jeff's injury) and most painfully, 3 slightly displaced posterior rib fractures.I'm fine. Pain is temporary etc...it only hurts when I breathe, but less each day.Have appt with my ortho guy upon my return-hopefully no surgeryNeeded for the clavicle-but it's near the AC joint...Broken back is stable and my arm numbness is gone and strength good-will heal w timeGot tossed from the top of a wave-good thing I'd already did my 5 mile run and OWS earlier.Wife was watching and thought it was too rough for wave jumping/riding... Don't you hate it when they are right. Will update next week Dale

Dale thats awesome news, and your dr is right could have been catastrophic! That really puts things in perspective.

My daughter needed open heart surgery when she was 2 1/2. We were scared to death. Went to the pediatric wing of the hospital and saw kids who were "really" sick...it put thing in perspective very fast.

Sorry to hear about your injuries but glad to see your getting better quickly. I just found out as I have been on vacation with the family.

Heal fast.

Take some opportunity to catch up on some rest if you can sleep.  I couldn't so it was the opposite for me.

Let your body recover.

For those that are still following this thread, Dream Chaser is is clobbering the course in Louisville. Looked like the swim was a little uphill, but that is expected without a wetsuit. Perfectly even splits on the bike and he is out in the run at just a bit over a 9 minute pace. He has about 25 miles left to run - he has a myathletelive tracker on him. Send him some good thoughts - GO BOBBY!
