I will not let it die!!!!! I haven't been doing much. The wife is working on doing her first half marathon so she has been getting all the training time (I'll be doing it with her, her pace though). I haven't been doing any routine but will be ramping back up soon. Today was cool enough this morning that I finally got to break out one of the finisher jackets that I got at LP. It felt pretty cool to walk around with it on. I might not take it off. |

Im just plodding along trying to stay in shape. 3hrs/wk bike, 3hrs/wk run, 5-6hrs p90x/lifting...no real plan or goal...just trying to stay in shape. Plan on starting joergs cycling plan in Nov, and start swimming again in feb. My only goal is to respond to every post on here until it hits 200 pages :) |

Been doing a bunch of running and it is fantastic to run just because I can. No specific workouts, no plans, just run a little every day. Already daydreaming about IMLP 2014.... |

Veteran 203![]() ![]() Canton, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official ThreadSo of course I watched the Olympics soon after we finished IMLP this year. In particular, I watched the mens and ladies marathon. I'm certain I heard the announcers say "And here is the start of just a marathon. Thats right, they wont be swimming or biking anything prior to it. Only running today." Anyways, I will be running "just a marathon" in March so training starts too soon. I have wondered about this myself - after IMLP (my first full) I was hardly sore, same with my history in 70.3 races. But half and full marathons, I definitely feel it the next day. I understand I am faster with 'just' running, but am hard pressed to find this the only reason.
(with you to 200...)

Why dont you try to run a sub 3:30 in an IM if its easier? I can tell you that My 1:04 swim, 5:57 bike with a flat tire and 4:15 marathon for a 11:25 finish at lake placid had my average HR for the day Bike Avg HR was 134 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/202334637 Run Avg HR was 147 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/202334644 My avg HR to run sub 3:30 and hoopefully 3:20ish will be at least 155bpm. That equals a harder effort and more hurt!!! Heres a file from my last 1/2 Marathon http://connect.garmin.com/activity/220766664 Avg HR 157 - It HURT!! but Hurt is GOOD. Thats why I say RACING A Marathon s harder then FINISHING a IM. |

Veteran 203![]() ![]() Canton, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official ThreadBut my sprint tri HR is over 170 the entire race. This doesnt mean its harder. Anyways, I get what youre saying but you cannot convice me that a marathon is harder or hurts more than an IM. Logically, it doesnt work out. Ive done both as well and can tell you that the next day after a marathon my legs were more sore than the IM. But I was fine and fully recovered after 2-3 days. Not so with the IM. |

Good discussion. I will say recovery from IM is much longer and more difficult the a marathon. |

Veteran 310![]() ![]() ![]() South Windsor, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Threadhey all! how is everyone?? I am on the comeback trail enough to declare myself off the DL-8 weeks from my injury and ran 8 yesterday and biked 30 on Saturday. what marathon are you doing, Jim? and I'm with you in principle as the evidence strongly suggests an IM marathon is considerably tougher than a 'regular' marathon-if both are truly raced; of course, pehaps it is just semantics but racing the long course IM is obviously harder than racing the marathon-- and finishing an IM but holding back and staying comfortably within yourself and not pushing it may be easier than racing the marathon--just sayin' and that puts me in both camps I could have finished the IM at placid in 16 hrs and it would have been a blast, but I hurt trying to push myself that day as I was still trying to achieve a time goal and stayed as close to the edge as I could Edited by dtoce 2012-10-08 2:44 PM |

Has anyone seen a description of the weather on race day in 2012? The number of DNFs were roughly double from previous years, and I am curious if there is a knowledgeable opinion on why. I have heard of a headwind on the bike, which I believe I felt for what seemed like 25 miles. And I know I had trouble with the heat, but it was only about 85 degrees that day. As this was my first IM, I am looking to understand what my body did that day and how to adjust in the future. Any "official" declaration about the conditions that day? thanks, t |

Regular 659![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Akron | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official ThreadGlad ur back Dtoce!!! That's awesome. WIsh I could run, wish I could run! I've been off for 4 weeks but still crushing numbers on the bike. Finally had a MRI on my ankle. Nothing to serious, but I'm skeptical of their findings. They said I still had some inflammation and scar tissue around a micro tear in the tendon on my foot. No surgery is good though! I hope to be back running in 2 more weeks, but slowly. Don't plan on hammering out any 16 milers soon.lol I'm ready to bite someone's head off if I don't get back to running sooner than later. I'm also seeing a PT this week so hopefully they will speed my healing up soon! Next year I plan on being on the "healthy list!" |
