I didn't do a HIM this weekend - I only did my second sprint this weekend.

I did however watch the guy & girls doing the HIM at Lake Geneva and just wanna say I have an unbelievable amount of respect for all of you who took that step.

Congratulations to you all - and to TH3 FRB, f'ing great times!!!

Thanks!  I never thought sub-5 hours was a possibility for my first HIM but I'm especially proud of my run...10th fastest on the day out of 435 finishers.

Congrats. Sounds like your nutrition plan worked. My first HIM is next Saturday. Did a local sprint today for a last-minute tune- up.

It wasn't pretty, but I finished. Was DFL, but I finished. It was brutal for me, but I finished. I gave the race director my throw-away camera since the race photographer had long since gone home, but I wanted evidence that I crossed the finish line!
If I can do it, anyone can!

Congrats Joel!  I knew you'd smoke that run.  Unfortunatey, I didn't pace myself as well and paid for it over the last 5mi or so (some dehydration and overheating as well).  Still finished better than I had originally expected first time out.

Race: PrairieMan HIM
Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Place: 94/314 overall, 21/43 M30-34
Time: 5:50:37 (44:08 swim, 2:53:05 bike, 2:07:16 run)

I drank way too much Gatorade on the bike, and had an upset stomach for the first 8-9 miles of the run, causing me not to eat or drink much.  Thus, I was starving the last 4 miles.   I wanted to break 6 hrs, so I'm happy with my performance, but I know I could have done better without the stomach problems.

Joel, how'd your nutrition plan work out?

Great job, Rhonda!

You must feel extremely proud - don't be so hard on yourself! You've done one more Half-Ironman than I have and probably than alot other BT'ers!

I just posted a thank you to those that posted on Friday with some last minute ideas for My half. I did not see this thread. This is painfully embarassing compared to TH3 and company, but...I DID IT!!!

I was right on plan until the second loop on the run and the undulating hills blew me up completely. But TH3 I ramped up on your nutrition Friday night while checking my list for the 50th time and that helped quite a bit I think. No laughing at my times, please...I just wanted to finish...

Congrats Johnny!

The key to my run was actually holding back on the bike.  If you check the results you'll see that the bike was my slowest leg (relatively) but I stuck with my pacing plan (and watched 50+ people blow by me over the first 15 miles) and hit T2 feeling great and ready to go.  The run felt very relaxed up to mile 10 or so and then the last 2 miles were a true test of determination.  That damn hill coming off the canal trail just about shut me down.

I was VERY happy with my nutrition.  I did some additional reading over the last few days and decided to cut back to 300 cal/hr on the bike and only ~100g carbs for breakfast (at 3:45am).  I ended up going through ~70oz of fluid on the bike (and was very happy when I had to pee around mile 50), and 30-40oz of water on the run.  I took one gel at T2 and carried 3 more in a flask on the run but only ended up going through about 2/3 of that in 4-5 smaller servings so it works out to about 180 cal/hr on the run.  I can't say I would change a thing overall...maybe a few extra Endurolytes here and there.

I actually paced the bike quite well I think and it was also my slowest relative.  I felt like I was standing still during most of the first 10 miles!  I had read that would happen, but still couldn't believe it as I was getting blown by.  I didn't pick it up at all until the last 5-10 miles and even then I felt very comfortable.

Despite going too hard over the first half of the run, that was still my best relative leg.  So there were lots of others who had a harder time pacing than me.

Oh, and I was forced to walk up the hills on the way home.  It didn't slow me down too much, becuase I was just about keeping up with people ahead of me who ran up the whole way!
