Subject: RE: Post iron enthusiasm...am I kidding myself? Everyone reacts differently. After Lake Placid, I felt the same way. A week later I figured I was fully recovered and ready to take on the world. I went out on a 40 mile bike ride on a loop that I normally ride. This route goes up a 2 mile climb to the summit of a small mountain. After doing the bulk of the ride, plus the mountain ascent, the last 12 miles coming home felt like a death march. I was trashed. Even a month later when I did a 1/2 marathon as part of a relay team at the Timberman, I thought I was feeling fine, but my time was horrible. I finished about 10 minutes slower than I hoped I would and the final 3 miles were a struggle.
You might feel different, and maybe you're ready for a marathon. Go out for a few rides and runs if you can before your registration deadline, to test yourself. Try a 10 mile run in the next few days and see how you feel. If it's a piece of cake, perhaps you will be OK.
