Oh, I get it now. But thanks for the tips. I was just going to use my running shoes for the biking, but I practiced almost all this year with those shoes and they are just more comfortable to me on the bike. I also don't want to ruin the Gel on the bottom of my running shoes. That's something I still need to think about. They say to use what you used in practice on race day though so I might just bring both shoes.

Can I just wear my compression sleeves and bike shorts during the swim and then throw on my compression shirt at T1? I wasn't going to wear the sleeves during the swim because of restricted movement I think, but the more I think about it the more I want to. They are a pain to get on and it will save me nearly half a minute time wise to have them on beforehand. They keep my arms straight and my muscles constricted during the ride, so I don't pull anything. My arms are the things that hurt worse than my legs when I was riding all this year so I got these. They do wonders at keeping my arms straight and at rest. I think I will look pretty stupid with just the sleeves and bike shorts on going into the swim, but then again I am not ashamed.

30 seconds is worth it to keep those sleeves dry, unless you want to have wet sleeves the entire ride.

Well I figure I could use that water to help hydrate my arms. Also, this summer when I had them on the ride, they were drenched in sweat anyways. Of course I was riding in 90 degree weather, but still. The weather should be just perfect on race day, in all hopes that it does not rain. Do they cancel it for rain? I cannot imagine my first Triathlon in an OWS in the rain. Talk about a nightmare.

That is what they look like, but gray. I got gray because it's not black bringing in all the heat, and it's not white that they get too dirty. They work great. I think I will look dumb just wearing them in the water though, but maybe not. They might actually help with some buoyancy now that I think about it. Is there a rule against wearing your shirt/sleeves with your shorts if you don't have a wetsuit? I might just do that if I can.

why the two pairs of shoes if one isn't a pair of cycling shoes? (unless i just don't see it right).. don't see how pedaling your bike will mess up the bottom of your shoes any more than running on them..

my trans setup is typically on a 1x1 or so square towel in the following order:

cycling shoes with helmet on shoes (or on bars depending on how cramped we are). glasses in helmet with arms open/straps open.

right above cycling shoes are my running shoes with visor (if wearing one) on and race belt (if I don't already have it on from the bike).

the more  you have to mess with the longer it takes.

Well, like I said I am not going strictly for speed here. This is my first time. I tried biking with my running shoes to see how it felt and I did not like it at all.

Roll your socks up like condoms. They roll easily onto wet feet that way. Ditto with two pairs of shoes. If one pair doesn't clip onto a set of pedals, ride in your running shoes. Swim in whatever you plan to ride in...shirt, arm warmers...

OK now I'm convinced you're trolling. You can't be serious.

There are a couple of points above with which I disagree (but as someone said, to each his own).  I do mostly agree with the advice already given (esp. ChrisM), including the advice that you are apparently not following, and I certainly agree that following it (plus -- and this is important -- practicing) will get you most of the way there.  (By way of 'credentials' -- if this matters to you -- I'm normally at, or within a few seconds of, the fastest transition times in any race I do.)

1.  I prefer to put my running shoes on TOP of my hat and race belt.  I put the shoes on in transition, grab the hat and belt, and put those on while I'm running out of transition.  This setup also has the advantage that the belt and hat are less likely to stray from my area during the race (getting kicked, blown, or whatever).

2.  Googling for images of transition setups is more likely to produce awful or at least non-ideal examples than good examples, IMO.  Most people (IME) put too much junk in transition.

Hmm.  Just saw the previous several posts.  I guess I'll leave up what I said, but this is getting a little suspicious, honestly.

i am not really a troll, i just like to get the best and most info, and work out my way to suit my needs. i usually don't listen to people but i follow what most are saying. good point about putting shoes on top of light stuff, i never thought of that.
