Cross posted in the MO forum.

I am doing the sprint the weekend, who else is racing?

I got a swim in at Longview last weekend and the water was pretty warm, maybe the rain this week can bring the temp down a little otherwise it is going to be like racing in soup.

Hopefully not too much rain on race day!  No fun riding in rain.

Racing the long course.  Hopefully the rain hasn't washed out the now gravel trails...

I'm in for the Oly.  I also talked six of my masters swim buddies into assembling two relay teams.  One team has a superior swimmer and runner who will be a combined 10 minutes or so faster but a weaker cyclist so between his time and transitions I actually have a shot of beating them.  Not sure if we start at the same time though.

I did the sprint the last two years, going long this time.

30% chance of rain as it stands now but you know how the weather is around here .......

I'll probably do an easy ride around the course on Saturday morning.

Anybody camped at Longview Lake before?

I took the wife and kids to Midwest Mayhem and the campground at Lonestar Lake was very convenient, right by transition. Get out of the tent and roll the bike down the hill to transition, easy peasy.  Longview Lake, not so much...

Trying to figure out how to get myself from the campground to the race site early in the morning without having to break camp and take everybody first thing.  If I can find others that are camping, maybe we could carpool one vehicle for athletes and leave another for families to pack up later in the morning.

I didn't even know Longview had a campground.  Never heard of anyone camping there.  Not sure I would camp there for safety reasons... kind of sketchy area at night.

I was camping at Longview last weekend with the boyscout troop I work with.  It really isn't that bad, I have camped a lot worse places.  The parks dept and police are pretty good at patrolling the area in the summer.

Faded - I'll PM you and if you let me know where you are camping, I can pick you up. I haven't met you but you don't seem like an axe murderer...

I will be out there as part of a team that Reece mentioned.  I have a wine tasting party the night before.  Not sure what kind of shape I will be in for the run after trying a lot of different wines, but if you see someone tossing their cookies on the run course it may be me- not from going to hard in the run but from too much punch the night before!

Pete will still beat my run split by at least 5 minutes.  So if you get passed by a guy that's hungover, what's that called?

Wish I was faster so I could hang out with peeps after the race. On long course races everyone tends to be gone already when I finish...

I'd love to meet up with anybody that will be at the race, and I'm sure my wife and kids wouldn't mind meeting anybody to hang out with during too.

Bib #299, Wave 2. (And of course look for the pinked out Felt. Black and white tri-suit.)

Should be hitting the road soon to get down there to camp out.

How did everyone do?
I ended up not coming at the last minute - but my boyfriend wrecked on the bike course . He is okay, just a broken chain and lots of road rash. Could have been much worse.

I heard rumors the swim was terribly short - what did you think?

Ouch!  Wasn't on the bridge was it??  I noticed a guy getting picked up on the last big hill back to Raytown road.

Swim was short.  RD and lifeguards/dive and rescue had miscommunication and they allowed swimmers to turn too soon.  Course was marked right, just didn't get swimmers to the right spot.

I was going to write a little blurb on examiner with race survey results.  At least everyone swam the same distance so it's not like one wave swam less than the other.

Wasn't on the bridge - but was near the end so that was probably him you saw (red Felt bike).

Said he stood up on one of the last hills and his chain broke; went down hard. Has nasty road rash on his hand, forearm, upper and lower back, and ankle. Chain ring tooth marks on his calf, lots of bruising all over his legs too. He is mostly concerned about the wound on his hand since he's a chiropractor and needs his hands to work... just glad he is okay. He was upset when he found out the chain was snapped, he was going to finish all banged up!

Yep, I think it was him.  He didn't look happy (understandably).

Out of everything that could happen, a mechanical failure always sucks!  Especially when it leads to a wreck.

Sorry you missed it Lisa,

Swim was short.  As our wave was standing there waiting to walk down to beach I mentioned to the RD (Bill) that the swim looked really short.  You could clearly see where they were turning but Bill didn't say anything at that point.  There was an orange turn bouy farther out but the first two waves were turning short of it.  I think that swim was only 500 yards total based on my swim time of 7:41

Other than that everything else went well.   My masters swim buddies put together two relay teams and they finished less than two minutes apart so very evenly matched.  Each had swimmers of equal ability, one had a stong cyclist, average runner the other had average cyclist, strong runner.  They'll be buying me the beer though Smile

Crazy short swim!

Just looked up my official results and it put me at 1:13/100.  Hah!  My normal cruising speed is 2:20/100m, maybe just under 2:00 when I'm in better form. Oh my, I must have found a propeller...

Also the results show me at least a mph faster on the bike than my cyclometer ever did...and not the first time.  Seems like races don't always use the same distances for the results' math that we actually travel...

I'm just thrilled I wasn't DFL again! The run was bad for me. They are never good but I was cramping left and right yesterday. The last one that stopped me almost DROPPED me. Mostly was the tops of my thighs, but near the mile 4 station I suddenly had the inside of my left thigh and knee seize up. Yee-ouch.  Almost fell into the grass.

I could move afterwards though. I think at Mayhem I was about into heat exhaustion.

Pretty good day overall I think.

We had good weather and the event had a good turn out.  I was in the short course, the swim was short but at least it was same distance for everyone.  I'm sure the better swimmers lost some of their advantage but since swimming is my weakest event it helped me minimized my lost time.  Heard several bike riders in the long course made their turn around at the bike enter/exit area instead of the turn around area just outside of the park entrance.  So the event appeared to have some communication issues it will need to resolve next year.  This is my third triathlon, and definitely my best performance, 82nd overall and 5/20 for AGr.

Nice work Eric,

Every time you go out there you'll get a little better.  Keep running, mostly easy, sometimes hard .... you know the drill ....

The average speeds listed in the results are based on an incorrect bike distance.  Those are based on a distance of 25.53 miles where the course was actually 23.53 miles according to mapmyrun site.  My Garmin 305 had it at around 23.2 miles.

Bummer about the swim because I would have been 4 to 5 spots higher OA with a longer swim.

Either I somehow became a star swimmer or the swim was really REALLY REALLY short. The shawnee mission swim seemed about four times longer.
