someguyinKC - 2011-09-01 10:38 AM Either I somehow became a star swimmer or the swim was really REALLY REALLY short. The shawnee mission swim seemed about four times longer.

My best estimate is that the swm was between 500 and 600 yards total, it was supposed to be at least 1,000 yards.  Last year I did the short course and finished 8:48 one lap.   This year I wore the bottoms of my 2-piece wetsuit expecting to finish between 15 and 16 minutes and came up at 7:42.  Michael Phelps or Grant Hackett could not do that swim in 7:42

The RD is aware of it and there was some miscommunication of some kind.  I think each lap turned out to be between 250 and 300 yards so yeah, swim times appeared fast.  Hopefully those new to the sport understand that the course was very short as they may be dissappointed in their pace the next race.  The bummer with the extra short distance was that it pretty much cost me a USAT National AG qualification as I lost another 2-3 minutes of edge over 2nd in my AG.
