Total Time = 1h 29m 8s
Overall Rank = 81/291
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 6/10
Pre-race routine:

Got up early, had some breakfast and coffee, got ready and drove to the event to register and set up my area.
Swim
  • 19m 49s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim started off fast, got caught up by the excitement and started off too fast. Ended up gassing myself and sucking up too much water in the 1st 200M and had to switch strokes to recover. Got into my normal rhythm and things were going much better but I think the fast start ultimately cost me at least 2 minutes in my swim time if not more. I see why people end up freaking out in open water thankfully I was able to get into my head and get back on track.
What would you do differently?:

Start off slower next time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

T1 went well. Didn't have a race belt so I didn't put my Tri top with number on until transition, getting the top onto a wet body was tough, likely added some time.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a cloth belt with plastic buckle and turn it into a race belt. Should save me some time in the future.
Bike
  • 39m 5s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 19.04 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike segment went well. Felt like I had a good cadence and pace. Only took in a little bit of water/gatorade mix since I just didn't seem too thirsty after all the water I drank on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start off a little faster, I didn't go all out at 1st and just wanted to make sure my legs were spinning before getting into the big ring. Could probably have pushed the bike leg a little more overall, wanted to try and keep enough in the tank for a decent run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Good, Knew where to rack my bike, out of the bike shoes into socks and running shoes and out.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe do some runs without socks, to take that part of the transition out of the equation. Also might look into some bungie shoe laces so I don't have to tie them.
Run
  • 26m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt pretty good. Been having some IT band pain recently and it didn't show it's head until I got home and was going down the stairs. Kept a decent pace that was pretty close to my training pace, had some kick left at the end of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Probably try to get my pace a little faster. I feel like given how fast I could go at the end I probably could have run somewhat faster on the whole course.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and walked around a little. Did some stretching when I got home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too much excitement at the start.

Event comments:

A well put on event. Everything started on time and the results were up quickly. Looked like there was plenty of food available at the finish as well. I would do another race by element events.
