Simple question - I think.  How much different is the taste of Perform between the recommended 3 scoops of powder/bottle vs a pre-packaged bottle?  Is it much sweeter, or is it quite similar to the powder?

I think the pre-packaged was a bit sweeter but I had a really hard time getting the powder to dissolve completely. It just stayed kind of cloudy.

I don't like ready to drink but like the powdered....for me taste was quite different....quite vile. Best is to taste it for yourself.

I was hoping to taste it before my 70.3 where it will be on course, but only recently did they start selling Perform in Canada, and so far I've only found it in powder - which I really like in comparison to Gatorade.

x2.  Also, I have had a problem getting it to dissolve.  I have to keep stirring it up before I pour a glass to drink.

Interesting topic as I was in communication with PowerBar about this. I did the HIM in Kona and before the race knew that this drink would be served on the course. At the time is wasn't available in Canada so I bought a few tubs of powder on-line. Very much liked the drink. While during the race and for the first time (mistake), took a mouthful of the pre mixed and was almost sick. There was a huge difference (in my opinion) in the taste. I tried another at a different aid station and same thing. I spoke with PowerBar and they claim the taste should be exactly the same. They questioned how I mixed my powder and I assured them there is no way I could mix the powder to taste the same as the pre mixed. Last year I volunteered in Kona and was a catcher at the end. One question we ask is if they want something to drink and almost to the athlete everyone said "no more Perform!!". As mentioned, I really like the powder but there is something abut the pre mix.

Like most things, I've found the the "manufactured" is better than the make-it-at-home variety.  I don't mind the Perform powder, but it is a bit sweeter and more tart (if that's possible) than the bottle.

I guess it's one of those areas where YMMV.  I bought a tub of the powder about a month before my 70.3 and thought it was fine.  I put mine in water bottles and shake them up, so I don't know how cloudy they might be.  On course at my 70.3, I did take plenty of the pre-mixed Perform and didn't notice a difference except that most of what they handed out was warm, which makes anything taste worse.  Maybe there would be a huge difference if I tasted them back to back and focused on the taste rather than on a race, but in the moment it didn't matter.  I also tried some other flavors on the run (the pink or orange colors?) when all I had trained with was the lemon-lime (also the flavor of the pre-mix they handed out on the bike).  None of them taste good warm.Money mouth

Personal experience during the long rides so far is that warm Perform (powder mix) is much better than warm Gatorade (powder mix).  With Gatorade I find the pre-packaged was too concentrated/sweet, and was worried about the same thing with the Perform, but hoping it would taste closer to the powder mix - which has a really light taste.

Just the opposite here.  Bought some powder to start using it before IMFL.  Way too salty taste for me.   But, I don't really like the lemon lime Gatorade that well either.  I just wish Perform powder was in orange. I went and bought more orange Gatorade powder this week just so I could "reward" myself with something to drink back at the car.

From what I read here, I guess I need to try some of the pre mixed stuff because it tastes different huh?

enjoy,

Duane

Yes, powder vs RTD (ready to drink) is very different, IMHO.  In RTD, you can get Lemon Lime, Orange Mango and Berry flavor.  I've only seen Lemon Lime powder.

I'm doing the Augusta IM 70.3 next month.  They are serving Perform on course.  It sounds like from these posts that they will be serving pre-mixed not powder. Is that correct?

Yes they serve the already mixed and taste aweful.  I drink it during races b/c I use on course nutrition but for my long training rides I use Gatorade or Gatorade Endurance.  Too me perform taste bad to start with but once it gets hot it is AWEFULL.

I've been using the lemon/lime powder for training but bought a couple of the orange/mango RTD bottles - it was horrifying. So strong, blech.
