Subject: In Dallas/need ride help
I am in really Irving Tx for a few days on business. Running is easy, I have my bike with me and I am looking for a place to ride. Anyone have ideas or should I just hit the streets?
Thanks

Contact Richardson Bike Mart and see if they have any mid week rides. If they don't they can probably recommend someone or a group who does...

Carrollton Cycling Club has a few maps of their club routes in Irving on their website.  You might also check out Campion trails.  It's only about 4.5 mi long, but I used to do it 4 times or so to get in a quick 20 miler.  If you're willing to drive, I can tell you some good routes north of Flower Mound.

I ran at Campion trails last night. I am staying in a corp apt at Colwell @ Las Colinas. I will prolly go to Campion trails tonight about 5:00 to do a brick. I will be on an orange QR CAliente wearing a blue sleevless shirt for both the ride and run. You wanna join me?

There's a wooden bike oval in that neck of the woods as well. Frisco maybe?

OK, I met with Carrollton Cycling Club last night. They meet about 1/2 mile from my apt. A real nice group of folks. I felt a little out of place since I don’t know them and I was on my tri bike. There were about 50-70 riders that split into 2 groups, a fast and a real fast group. I stayed with the fast ones for about 2 miles until the real fast group past, so I took off. I didn’t think about Houston being so flat and Dallas having hills, WOW. I stayed with them for about 18 miles, then I got dropped. YES, I got dropped!! I haven’t been dropped in over a year. I guess it should be a humbling experience. I rode a total of 23 miles. I skipped the run.

I've never actually rode with CCC, but I can believe they're fast.  Don't feel bad about being dropped.  Happens to all of us.   I haven't rode in Houston, but yes, contrary to popular belief, there are hills in North Texas.  Lots of 'em.

I'm glad you got a ride in up here.   I'm taking this week easy as I'm recovering from PrairieMan on Sunday.

it is not neccassarily Dallas, but Texas Motor Speedway has a road that goes all the way around it (5mi). Many triathletes / cyclists use this area. It has very little traffic and the bonus is that it is well lit. I'll go there for an early morning ride a few times a week and it becomes the default place to go in the winter when the days are so short.

Park by the ticket sales office and ride clockwise around the loop.
