Overall Rank = 48/336
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Couldn't sleep, so I got there very early. Went to Starbucks and grabbed Oatmeal and juice. Ate a banana in the car. Had a headache from not enough sleep the last few days
Event warmup:

Not much. Short run, then two minutes swimming just before the gun
Swim
  • 15m 57s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not my best swim. Poor drafting, and the waves messed me up. Then I really got off course coming back and swam way out of my way. It was poorly marked on the return and very difficult to pick out the exit rampl
What would you do differently?:

Draft more, find somebody to follow to the swim finish
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

A long run from the swim to the transition. But it was ok
What would you do differently?:

dk
Bike
  • 38m 57s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.49 mile/hr
Comments:

A solid effort on a tough course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Not a bad transition.
What would you do differently?:

Tie shoes tighter.
Run
  • 23m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Need to get faster on the run. It was as good as I could do today, but my speed isn't getting it done.
What would you do differently?:

More interval training
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out. Went back to car, got warm clothes, then headed to the transition area to get my bike, wet suit and other stuff

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience. Limited training time.

Event comments:

Slow start, but the wind was blowing away the swim markers, so not their fault. Great street control. It was residential streets and I didn't get stopped at an intersection one time.

Good job yesterday....I was unimpressed with the race organizers....but that happens!  I agree that intersections were well-manned, but there was one spot going downhill past PCC where it was chaotic and cars and people all over the place.  Glad to see you got to podium!

Thanks.  You too.  It was a crazy race with the late start, wind, drifting turn markers, hills, etc.  It was amazing they took so long for awards. I was in wave 11 of 13, finished a little after 10:00...and hung out until 11:30 when they finally did awards.
