Subject: 1st year done, winter plans?

I completed my first year of triathlons and certainly learned that running is my weakness. My initial plan is to jump on a half marathon plan with cross training of 1 swim plus one bike per week. The question is will the 1 bike and swim properly maintain my current level of fitness in these sports so I can pick them oboth up where I left off as I get closer to spring?

Last winter I did an oly plan then ramped into a HIM plan

Here's what works for me... I always take some time off after the season ends and do what I feel like when I feel like it. Some years that turns out to be a trainer ride once a week, somethings I get one every single day... no matter, what I do need to have some time off the structured training to allow me to get the things done that I have neglected during the season, get mentally and physically read for the winter training season etc. This year, it will be at least 2 months, maybe as long as 2.5..

Also, finding other sports during the winter season helps me getting ready and excited about the next tri season. Personally, we do snow shoe racing, XC skiing and downhill skiing. Plus the odd winter runs of course.

go forth and build your running base.  That's what I do in the winter.  I don't mind running in the cold and dark, but cycling in the cold and dark?  no way.  will your cycle suffer a bit backing off for the winter- yeah, probably.  But, you'll bring it back next spring, and your run will be a lot better.  So, it all works out.

My philosophy is to do what you enjoy doing and let the race times land where they may.  But, then again, I'm not a pro.  I do this for fun.
