I was thinking, Put the seat all the way down, flip the stem over.  Now it sounds like a lot of work for a bike that's too big...

I would love to try it on someones bike - I'm 49-51.  CX bike is definately on the 2012 "to buy" list.  Oh, so is tri bike, new mt. bike, new roadie.... oh I wish I had a money tree!

I will start a new thread about the Sup-Burb-O-Cross (SBOC).

I did the race last night. Jerry was there and it was fun to meet him and his two cute kids after the race.

Boy is cross hard! I heard quite a few of the other racers commenting that last night's course was really difficult so I think I picked a doozy to start on. I did not make it to the park by 5 pm for the skills clinic. I watched you tube videos during the day to try to learn how to get on and off at speed (probably not the best way to prep for a new sport!) and then I had about 15 mintues before the race to practice dismounting and remounting. I have the dismount down but was not able to gracefully hop back on the saddle while at speed like most of the other racers.

Anyways, its a great workout and a lot of fun. I recommend it to others who are looking for some good bike training!

Good for you, Sarah!  You're braver than I.   I was thinking that the part I would struggle with is the mounting, since I don't have a clue and have never tried to do a flying mount before.   Trial by fire I guess.

We only saw the longer Cat 1,2,3 race last week and even those guys looked pooped in the last 15 minutes (except maybe the top 5 guys).

Sarah did a FANTASTIC job and is one of my new BT heroes!  It was a very difficult course with one challenging almost 180 degree turn uphill into a barrier, then a 90 degree turn to re-mount the bike.  Here's how Sarah dominated that turn.  Sarah, you were very inspiring to watch Great job!

Oh there's mountain bikes too, not too many of them though  and I think the only rule is No Bar-ends...

There were a few mountain bikes in the mix but mainly cross bikes. I think a mountain bike would work fine especially to just try out a race. If your mountain bike has a suspension fork that can be locked out I'd recommend doing that. You won't need the suspension for cross and it will just absorb some of the power you are generating.

I am lucky enough to have a friend that lent me her cross bike for the fall so I could try out a few races.

Thanks! Good to know. Think I'd be game to give it a try on my 29er.. sometime..
Will be away for the Oct 11th race - looks like the last opportunity this year,
but just found and skimmed through the USAC rule book regarding format and it
answered a bunch of my cyclo-questions.

There's also cyclocross races almost every weekend in the fall.  I'll see if I can find a link.  A bunch of my buddies belong to a team called crossniacs.  Check www.crossniacs.com they might have a schedule..

I was looking at bikesdirect.com and a person could get an entry level cross bike for way under 1k.

I will be spectating tonight - will anyone else be there?

I am hoping to get off work early and get there by 5:25.  I want to see the "regular" folks start.

I cannot make it tonight. However, I am planning on racing at the Fridley CX race this weekend. The Tuesday night cross race lumps all the women together in one field but this weekend there is a separate Cat 4/Beginner Women's race which I am excited to race in.

Here is the info if any other BT people are interested:
