Swim
Comments: Swimmers were seeded in 2 minute brackets and started every 10 seconds. I passed 2 people and was passed by 6. What would you do differently?: I passed one mid-lenght person and got winded. He passed me again soon after the turn. I should have maintained a more even pace and passed at the wall. Otherwise the swim went pretty well. Transition 1
Comments: T1 included a 1/3 mile run from the pool to the transition area at the stadium. (We joked about the "quadathlon") I left my shoes outside the pool and changed before the run. When I got to my bike all I had to do was put on my helmet and go. What would you do differently?: nothing. Bike
Comments: I had trained on this route several times (it passes by my house). I felt comfortable, and knew the course well. Some parts were freshly paved, others were not. Police & volunteers were stationed at all the intersections, stopping traffic. What would you do differently?: Nothing - this was a PR for this route! Transition 2
Comments: I'm not sure where the time went in T1. The transition area was rather long. What would you do differently?: not sure... Run
Comments: I had pushed a little on the bike and hurt a bit coming out of T2. I got my legs back soon enough. I ran pretty well for me and felt strong. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, cheered for friends, chatted, ate a banana or two. Event comments: This was the race that inspired me to start tri-ing a year ago. One year ago I couldn't run a mile without stopping. This year I have done a 5k, and 10k and two sprint tris. I exceeded my goal in this race (so much so that my wife and kids missed me at the finish). I am extremely pleased and I can't wait to do it again next year. Last updated: 2005-03-23 12:00 AM

I rode my bike about 3 miles to race venue, set up my transition area. Had a gel for breakfast, and walked to pool.
