Is anyone else doing this? I did it last minute last year (mini). I am thinking about it again this year but I find the 85$ (plus whatever Active is going to charge me) to be a little steep for a end of year tri.

I'm in for the sprint - I thought about the mini but like you thought $85 was steep, so went with the sprint instead.

I signed up for the half.

But I'm not planning on "racing" it. I'll treat it like a long training day. Take my time. Have fun. Talk to everyone. If I pass any roses, I will stop and smell them. (I just needed something on my schedule after my last race -Buckeye Challenge Mini- to keep me from becoming a complete couch potato.)

Since it's not an A race, that means if it's cold, rainy & windy the morning of the race, there's a good chance I'll bag it.

I'm doing the half.  It will be my first at this distance.

Aw Yeah!  Good luck.

I am also doing the half.  my training has been lower than in previous years so I am not expecting a PR and will not push the swim or run but I will look for 21+ mph avg on the bike.  with any luck i'll finish under 5:10

I can't due to work but I volunteered to do packet pick up on Saturday- never heard back from HFP. Never got my award for my giant eagle win, either.

never got my giant eagle award either - i was really annoyed that they grandstanded the "pros"  and dissed everyone who paid for their race.

Try messaging trinergy on bt through the giant eagle thread. He is the sponsor guy for hfp and the swim starter. he may be able to get the ball rolling.

Could somone help me understand the aid station set up for the half. I am quite confused as to the set up and such. I don't want to carry anymore than needed so if there is no need for fuel belt then i will leave it at home.

the way it worked in 09 (i skipped 10) was at the exit of T1 there is a water/heed bottle exchange (they may have had gu type stuff to but i didn't take)  you pas this station at the end of each loop as well as the start so in the sprint you see it twice, oly 3x, HIM 4x.  the way it works is lightly toss your empty to the ground out of the way, reach for a bottle from a volunteer, go

when you leave T2 you pass a different aid station with water and heed.  there were port o pots a mile in.  there was a water/heed and gel table at 3.25 miles (you pass this twice in the HIM none in the 5k)  - maybe there was a midway water station as well near the port o pots -I cant remember and I would not have used anyway.

I have breakfast, prehydrate, take a gu pre race, have a bottle with calories in it, trade it for heed at each lap.  i take heed at 0, 3.25, water at 6.5, 8.75  -lots of fluids after the race

yeah, but it won't affect finish order at all.  it is as if you are just coincidentally training where am racing (just leave me a path for participants get by if needed)

of course I don't know how you would set up transition if not registered?  maybe just leave your bike near transition or even at the car
