Xtri has just received word that Michael Raelert will be racing Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas on April 1. This race was already pegged to be the biggest triathlon event on the spring schedule. With Raelert heading to the start line next to Lieto and Armstrong, there is no doubt that this race will be a good ol' fashion Texas showdown.

Dont forget Docherty, Tollakson, and others. There are some VERY fast runners in teh field. This is shaping up to be a great pro race. If I wasnt racing I would be driving down anyway to watch this one happen in person. should be one heck of a show!

Maybe I'll see them cross the finish line as I get out of the water.

Where is a good place to do a practice swim? I'm not familiar with Galveston at all.

Also, are there places to avoid swimming. We can't swim the course so I'm guessing that would be a bad place Smile

Thanks.

I wish I knew.  No place I've suggested is deemed safe.

You can swim on the gulf side but the waves are much much higher than the bayou.

The only place sanctioned I found was Sylvan Beach way up in La Porte.

If someone has better ideas let me know.

Not really looking forward to all the media. Despite anything in the past, I really don't like cameras. Wasn't really signing up for a media fest. Don't get me wrong., I appreciate what he might do for the sport. But I kinda liked last year, where you really only had to see a few cameras, and that was pretty centralized. The course was peaceful, downright gorgeous, and I felt in tune with myself.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! I really hope I don't get to meet any of you since I will be working the medical tent all day but if it doesn't go as planned, I will help fix you up good as new! Race smart and have fun!

Guy at the Trek tent said Lieto pulled out due to some leg issue.

Good luck Brad.

Thanks D! I'll report back after the race. Right now I'm hoping for lite wind, cool temps and no mechanical issues. Regardless it'll be fun!!

If you complete two 70.3 (70.3 + 70.3 = 140.6) can you call yourself an Ironman?

Woohoo! Brad, Rachel and Kelly you all rocked it! And everyone else you raced too.  Congrats to all.  It was really fun to watch the pro race unfold live online, and then follow all you BTers!
