Subject: Zoot recovery or 2XU refresh recovery pants?

I'm definitely going to buy a pair of recovery pants.  I have the Zoot socks and wear them after my long runs and races of half-marathon and above, and I really can tell a difference.  However, above the knee, I usually feel like I need compression on my hips and thighs and the socks can't do that.  I looked at the Zoot and I measured my calves, thighs and waist.  Sizing is a bit confusing there.  I'm afraid I will get them too small, but if I order them too big, they're not going to do much for me.  And they are $150.  The 2XU are $159!  The sizing there is based on height and weight, and all 3 sports has me in one size and trisports has me in another size.  It's the same product!  So what is everyones experience with the pants and sizing?  Should I go on the smaller size for greater compression or order the pants a little too big?  I know with Zoot, if I order to fit my thighs, then they might be big on my calves.  Too bad they can't customize!

I also have the Zoot socks, and the Zensahs.  I wanted a pair of recovery tights but the price was scaring me.  I ended up buying a pair of CW-X Stabilyx Tights.  The price was significantly less.

I've only used them once, after a 16 mile run, but I like the results so far.  Time will tell, but so far so good.

BTW, I've seen them for less than $70 at a few different sites.

Clearly I am partial to the ZOOT's. If you choose to go that route, shoot me a PM and I can give you a 25% off discount code for the ZOOT web site.

I have Zoots and like them.

I have other compression things from 2XU...not impressed with it or works as well as Zoot.

I have the zoots and really like them.  In terms of what size to order - I would recommend email zoot and asking their opinion.

Thanks for the replies!  I think I have decided on the Zoots.  I just gotta figure out what size to order.  They are actually $10 cheaper even without the discount code.

I have the Zoots and I would classify them as my best tri-related purchase EVER.  Seriously great!

On sizing, I had a similar problem.  My calves had me in a 2 and my thighs put me in a 3 (while my waist put me in a 1!).  Waist doesn't matter as there is no compression up there anyway.  Go with your calf size.  The tights are significantly less forgiving in the calves, so you don't want them to be too big or too small there.  The thigh part of the tight has a bit more stretch, so a little more 'wiggle' room is ok.  At least, that's been my experience.

CEP does do custom compression.

I tried some different compression garments to see if I could produce a visual benefit to demonstrate its effect. This is what I came up with:

Compression worn on the right leg- not on the left:

and then, compression worn on both legs for around 17 hours, "before" on the left, "after" on the right:

And wearing compression while sleeping to achieve the above results:

I've found the compression product size charts to be accurate. If you go by the height/weight on the 2XU size chart you'll get an accurate fit- same for Zoot.

Between brands the bar is pretty high. They are nearly all pretty darn good and acheive a similar benefit.

I too was falling into different sizes at the calf and thigh. I emailed Zoot and they recommended going with the sizing that matched the calf.

I just called them and they told me to go with the calf size.  So that is what I am ordering.  Their website is not working right now, but they hope to have it up and running within the hour.

Love my Zoot recovery tights!!!  I bought them 2yrs ago and still use them regularly---they've held up VERY well.  With Bryan's code it's tough to beat them.
