Rev3 CP is one of the few races that has a backup plan for really rough water.  If the water is too rough on the beach course, they will switch to a time trial start in the harbor.  not ideal, but better than canceling the swim!

The muck last year was nasty.  For some reason, it freaked me out and I had to give myself a little pep talk/ tongue lashing during the swim.

Good to know!

And I have to laugh at the muck thing... I have no problem with fish, critters, no visibility, waves...whatever. However, if I have to walk in squishy, mucky, funk and have all that crap on my feet and between my toes, then I'm all skeeved out and don't want to be in there, lol.

the muck wasn't that bad. On saturday is was all over the shore and it stuck to you until you got out swimming (which means it really stuck to you on the way back in from swimming). I guess if you weren't wearing a wetsuit is wasn't fun...ok, maybe it was pretty crappy, but they did a good job bulldozing it away from the start line for the race.

just be careful on the dolphin dives Surprised

Does anyone know if and how fast Rev3 Cedar Point sells out?  Just got denied our half distance at Muncie this weekend and want to get the distance in this year, but don't feel like signing up way in advance only to get screwed again!!

Any info helps!  Thanks!!

Not certain but it's unlikely to be hot enough to change the distance if that's your concern. There is also a half in September at Deer Creek. Look up HFP Racing for that one. I'm a fan of both Rev3 and HFP.

You should be glad you got bumped on Muncie.  Shortened the course due to high heat!  107 degrees, screw that!

Is there a Half Rev group in the iron distance race group forums?  Any interest in starting one (for those of you whom are also doing the Half Rev)?

I have switched to Infinit as I found it works great for me.  Just tweaking the electrolytes and the taste now.  Used it for Deer Creek Oly. and at Muncie (1/2 to Oly) lol.  Worked great.  I use a 'feed bottle' that has about 4x the servings in it and add some of it to the water I get at aid stations.

One the bike, I have been using with Cliff Gel's and Shot blocks.  What can I say, I love gummy bears and my stomachisn't phased by anything solid when I bike or run.  I carry one bottle of water, and another of GNC Amp'd Endurance Booster.  200 cals per scoop but utra sweet - still getting used to it but it does seem to help.  Although truth be told I have to force myself to drink it - yea its that powerful.  Gonna try GU Brew and Accelerade in hopes I drink it faster.  I like gatorade, but with the shot blocks and gel, need plain old water to ease 'em down.

Haven't tried electrolyte tablets yet, and since I was gonna try the Gu Brew and Accelerade, I might pass on them.

For the run, I do have an Amphipod with 4 water bottles, but have only been using 2.  Its tough to get a grasp right now as the weather is still relatively mild.  I am thinking 2 waters (just in case) and 2 brews and blocks.

Rain or shine I have a 2 hour ride this weekend, so gonna see how it goes.  Either way, in 5+ months I'll know how well I planned!

Sonic7273 - 2012-06-14 7:07 AM oh ok lol...I guess I'm a little too excited about this..  my second sprint tri ever and looks to be a really fun course

I also signed up for the sprint and it will also be my second. Hope to see you out there. I will be coming from Pittsburgh so I grabbed a hotel at the Maui Sands, seems to be a better room for a cheaper price then the onsite locations. Just means I need to get to the course earlier. I am staying Fri-Sun so I can cheer on every on Sunday.

I'm VERY seriously considering REV3 Cedar Point for next year (2013) and am wondering how quick the full sells out.  I know prices go up tomorrow and am considering pulling the trigger tonight, but may hold off awhile.  I want to be reasonably sure I'm ready to make the time commitment.

Not sure.  I registered for the 2012 race in March.

I think that even the Half still had spots open as late as May or June.  Not sure.... but I don't think any of it sells out quickly at all.   Heck, I was able to register for the SprintRev in mid-August.

I went ahead and registered last night before the price went up.  I know once a race gets in my head, I may as well just register, because it's going to keep poking at me until I do anyway.

That lake is so intriguing to me.  I've already bought two books about the legends, shipwrecks, and history of Lake Erie.  Lots to do there plus my hometown is only 2 hours away and I've not visited in 8 years.

I'm signed up for the full.  This will be my first full.  I am excited and terrified!  Choosing this one was more about convenience.  I want my family to be there and this is not too far for them to travel.  I have many friends that did this one this year and have only great things to say about it.  I hope to live through this one to do another one.....some day!

AWESOME!  Will you be using a training plan?  If so, which one?

This will be my third.  The first was Ironman Florida and the second was Beach2Battleship (Wilmington, NC).  I'm working my way from south to north!

I've not been to my home state of Ohio in 8 years.  We used to visit Cedar Point every summer when I was growing up (Warren Ohio).  Can't wait!

I've registered for this one and it will be my first full distance as well.

I'm super excited and a whole lot more nervous!  As mentioned by others, Cedar point is very close to many friends and family that will be there for support.  I also spent my entire early adult life working at Cedar Point.  There is definitely a sense of coming full circle for me.  I cant wait to be running over that causeway with the parks lights calling me home to the finish line.

I'll be using the Competitive "Be Iron Fit" training schedule by Don Fink.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the race

I was thinking about putting this race on my schedule until I was hit with the sticker price! $125 for a Sprint. Plus room and board for the night prior because I live about 3 hours from Cedar Point. For that much I could sign up for 2 races instead of just 1. Can someone explain the benefits of doing this race over others I could do.

My wife and I have rode the MS Pedal to the Point for the past few years.  Sandusky and the surrounding area is very flat, the biggest hills around Sandusky are riding over the highway overpasses.  Worst part would be if they have recently sealed and chipped any of the country roads.

I'm planning on the Lake Erie swim being the most challenging open water swim in my area, pushing my swim training.

If any family/friends spectate they will have Cedar Point to keep them busy.

You've asked a good question and I'm not sure why it's so high - maybe just the location?. Rev3 puts on a great venue but I'd only do this race if I was doing the longer distances because their rates for the half and full are comparable to others. The sprint cost is not. Last year the Sprint tri was reduced to a 5K only due to a storm that rendered it unsafe to swim and bike with the downpour. That can happen on any given race day but I wouldn't be willing to risk $125 to run 3.1 miles - that'd be a bummer. If, however, you really enjoy CP and want to make it a fun weekend for your family then putting up that kind of money might make it worth it.

I noticed that the half and full Rev pricing was in the "normal" range but the sprint price just blew my mind. I was hoping there would be more of a reasoning than "it's at Cedar Point". Being from Ohio and having been to Cedar Point before, that in itself doesn't seem to be justification enough for me to sign up for this race. If I was from out of state or had never been to Cedar Point before than that would be different. I already think that the amusement parks in Ohio are already way over priced to begin with and after doing some checking the cheapest room at Cedar Point I could find for the night prior was $135 and I think that was in the hotel basement next to the boiler room at the Breakers! I'm sure Rev3 puts on a fine venue but but probably not what I would expect for the $250+ that I would spend to participate. I think this will go on the mental shelf until I'm ready to do a HIM, then I'll revisit the idea when I expect the race to be more pricey.

For everyone doing the 1/2 or Full, keep an eye on this thread for the Course preview day.  Cleveland Tri Club will host a day at Sawmill Creek in August.  It will include a swim clinic, course ride with A, B and C groups, and a short brick run afterwards.  The ride has an aid station that will be manned with a drop car available.  This is a great way to see the course and get to know others doing the race.  Also, while the course is not hilly, it is not as flat as you expect.  Lots of false flats!  Stay tuned!
