Total Time = 1h 25m 41s
Overall Rank = 208/330
Age Group = clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 16/26
Pre-race routine:

Wake up, drink gatorade, have a Clif bar, lots of water.
Event warmup:

1/2 mile jog, light stretching. Would like to bike some but it is too difficult checking in and getting in and out of the transition area. Also would llike to swim some but with the pool swim release times it would be about 1.5 hours between the time I swam and the time I started, so I figured it wasn't worth it.
Swim
  • 06m 3s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good during the swim, there was no one in front of me and I ended up passing 2 people. So that was a 45 second gain in a 6 minute swim. Not bad. Getting out of the pool was tough, it was like walking up a beach.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry so much about where others are and just go for it. I lost about 30 seconds thinkong of how others would make the turn.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I took more time than I would have liked here, but overall not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster out of the pool.
Bike
  • 47m 7s
  • 12.2 miles
  • 15.54 mile/hr
Comments:

I enjoyed myself on the bike. It was a beautiful ride and I tried to have fun and give encouragement to others.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my speed training, I lose more time during the bike than anywhere else. I enjoy cruising so much and watching how others work so hard I would hate to miss out on this for the sake of cutting out a couple of minutes.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

great transision, I changed my shirt to the one with my number on it and that was it. I had a gel in the last part of my bike along with lots of water, and that was perfect for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 32m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run, I had hoped to cut my time from 35 minutes in the previous race to 30 minutes here, and ended up splitting the difference.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder, I felt so good at the end, I could have completed a 10-k. The bricks I have been running really helped out. But my speed has got to improve. The first mile, even though it was downhill, was slower than the last. I have to get out of pace mode and start working right off the bike.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I weigh too much, if I increase my run training I should see my overall times go down as weight loss increases.

Event comments:

Beautiful course, wonderful facilities (I had a great shower after the race) and nice people. The guy starting the swim (Dave) would call out the name of the person you were racing for and that was a nice touch.

Hang in there! You had a great race. Everything you mentioned about improving will help I promise. Wake Forest was my first last year and we had similiar times. This year I was much faster on the bike and run but still have a long way to go on the swimming.

Where are you training at? I live in Randleman(actually Level Cross) but go to Country Park alot for the running. I swim at the Ragsdale Y but will be going to the Masters class at the Bryan Y as soon as the Cannonball half marathon is over. I ride the bike wherever but mostly around Randleman.

Congrats on the race.

It was a nice course over all.  The long hill on the run was pretty challenging, but I liekd that we were in the shade a good bit.
