That was the first year I was able to run through the laptop onto the flat screen.   What a great race

TJ - 48th overall in the swim, 1:23 per 100 yds. Wow.

I can barely swim 100 yards total in 1:23.

Looks like she took the lead in her AG on the bike... see if she can hold it on the run.  16.16 pace for the first 5.

That's so cool about the roll. I've never raced in my own country so I don't know a lot of tri lore.  If it was me, if I rolled for anything more than a sprint, they'd have to scrape me up off the ground after!

I love the energy. The people finishing now have been out there for a long time and still finish with a smile and pumping fists etc. People amaze me.

It's the sacrifice and the proof to themselves (and their surrounding more or less).

Here is a picture of TJ out of the water headed to the bike.  I've got a bunch more but thought I'd post this for now.

Hot Runner - 2011-10-08 9:39 PM Woot for Chrissie!  The coverage is streaming fine here in Vietnam but unfortunately I had to start my long run just as she went thru 10 miles. No mobile technology so couldn't follow it on the road, so I did a little "race" with her (of course I hadn't biked at all first, let alone 112 miles). Did about 14 miles and made it back with just time enough to tune back in and watch the last km or so. And kudos to Rinnie for working it to the end.  What's the deal with rolling at the finish line???????

Look up Blaise......raced Kona with ALS......did a roll at the end.  Lots of Kona finishers honor him and the Blaizeman ALS foundation with a celebratory roll.  He died a year or so after that infamous "roll" over the finish line.

What a story. Sitting here at 6am reading it while eating oatmeal before meeting friends and doing a long run. Hard to eat now. Makes you think how fortunate we all are and how precious life really is.

His website is still up and maintained by friends and family: alswarriorpoet.com

I got up and tuned in just in time to see Harriet, the oldest female competitor (76) cross with under 5 minutes, then about 4 or 5 more. The 17:00:04 woman brought tears to my eyes.

Chrissie is the undisputed Queen of Triathlon!

Except for those women who have won more Hawaii titles than her.

LOL! She's planning more. Did you hear her jokingly call out Dave Scott at the finish? "Only 2 more, and I'll have as many as you, Dave." She's also broken most of the records set by the women who've won more. Anyway, it's just fun to speculate.

Had total PTSD attack (if there is a sports-related version  of it) over the 4 second lady--yelling at the computer screen and in tears when she didn't make the cut. Totally brought back my first marathon--2:59:52 with crowd gone whacko and RD screaming and yelling. If I hadn't made it I think I would have fallen down and died. She handled it with remarkable grace, though, which I would have not have had at age 14, maybe even now.

I know it's a cherished tradition, but given the age of many of these BOP competitors and what they go thru to just get there, it does seem kind of mean to deny them a medal if they make the final cutoff and do reach the line unassisted. Please, don't flame me, I understand it's sacred and you have to draw the line somewhere for "Ironman" to be meaningful.  Just felt sorry for her--she reminded me a bit of my mom.
