Subject: Fastest 5K Course in Atlanta Area?
I just finished the Peachtree City Classic 15K this morning in 1:01:xx (results not posted yet).  I had a pretty good race especially, after riding 112 miles yesterday on the Silver Comet Trail including a minor accident/bike pile-up.  So, I want to put my Ironman training to the best use.  I want to run a qualifying race for the Peachtree Road Race 10K.  I know the Charles Harris 10K is a great PRR qualifier but what 5K races are as good.  I'm over 40 yo so I'd need to run an 18:20 5K to be seeded, if the ATC doesn't change the rules for 2012.

The Chattahoochee Road Runners 5K, 10K are fast. Very slight rollers, and a downhill at the very end. I qualified top seed for the PRR on this course (5K). Some that ran the 10K didn't feel as though it was a great qualifier, though.

Good luck! Will keep on eye on your progress.

The 5K is really good, but the 10K isn't even in the ball park.  The 10k has a lot more rollers and the huge downhill at the end is a larger part of the 5k.

Honestly though the best qualifiers are flat and short.

Thanks guys for the ideas.  I may try the Chattahoochee 5K if it fits my work schedule.  I ran the Charles Harris 10K as a PRR qualifier last year and it was fast - downhill with a tail wind.  I just barely ran a sub-40 and honestly I don't think I'm capable of a sub-38 10K no matter what course.

For next year.. remember Vinings Downhill.  It's SUPER FAST and a P'Tree qualifier but has already ran just a month ago

I ran the Vining Rotary race back in 2009.  It sure is downhill.  I can't believe that it's a PRR qualifier, though.

This race is seriously flat...only one roller (at the second turn around so it is done twice).  Active.com lists it as the "best Peachtree Qualifier of the season - FLAT, FAST, and scenic along the Chattahoochee River...".

It isn't usually crowded and they do a nice job of running the event each year.
