.... one more thing, I highly recommend making a hotel reservation at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel (Host Hotel). If you get signed up here in 3 weeks time then make the reservation same day.

Plus for IMFL is likely you can register on line and if not have a shot at IMAZ.

Negative if you try for IMAZ and don't get in, what option do you have? Go community fund slot for double the cost?

Last two years IMAZ has been open under an hour one year less than 15 minutes where IMFL is often open 8+ hours. Some get closed out of IMAZ due to Active glitches which with IMFL that won't happen.

Every year is new and what happens can surprise us.

I did Florida in 2006 and Arizona in 2008. Both were alot of fun. Florida I was able to rent a condo on the beach 200 yards from the start, which gave the family something to do all day while I was out on the course but close enough to walk over to transition and the swim start. Arizona with the multi loop bike and run and the figure 8 run loop gave the family alot more chances to actually see me during the race which was great for me, but there wasn't too much for them to do and we had to stay across town. Arizona has a bigger airport which cost less to fly into. THe water at FLorida was great 70 degree water on a 40 degree morning, and was colder in AZ 63 degrees on a 55 degree morning. Florida was a beach start which felt more crowded to me, and Arizona is a deep water start which since noone wanted to jump in the water, if you beat the last second lemming into the water rush you could find some open spots and have a smoother swim. Single loop bike at Florida, I preferred vs 3 loop bike at AZ, but the 3 loop run at AZ vice 2 loops at Florida was easier to take mentally (although I did run alot faster at Florida. The pre and post race stuff at AZ was outdoors which got a bit uncomfortable with the wind.
