OH MY GOD, IT'S MARTHA STEWART LIVING ON BT

As for getting ripped off, I think a loss in translation has occurred. "ripped off" in Australia means you aren't getting what you deserve, like short changed. And as I understand iit in the US, ripped means, a) Cut, buff, muscular or B0 Given a hard time.

So that will explain my use of teh term..

Godd to see so many SNAGS out there helping their ladies around the house either through want or fear its all good.

No translations needed. If you like to cook, take advantage of that skill and treat someone special SPECIAL.

Ladies, how long would the flight from Boston to Sydney be?

Our house is kind of funny... I do the cooking 98% of the time, but whenever we have company over, my wife takes over the kitchen. She hates the cooking but loves the glory, I guess.

That said, I really need to start expanding my cookbook. I'm falling into my mother's routine of the same dishes cycled every couple of weeks.

I make a pretty mean Pad Thai - and I don't mind sharing!!

1/2 lb (8oz) rice vermicelli noodles
1 lb shrimp, pork or chicken (or mix)

Sauce:
1/4 cup fish sauce
1/4 sugar
1/4 white vinegar
1 t paprika
2 T sri racha or to taste

Other:
1 small red chile, sliced
2 shallots, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 eggs, beaten
2 C bean sprouts
4 green onions, minced - large pieces ok
1/2 C peanut oil (less if not in wok)

Garnish:
fresh lime juice
handful chopped peanuts
cilantro

1. Soak rice noodles in warm water x 30 min, drain well
2. Mix fish sauce, etc... until well combined
3. Heat oil, add chile, shallots, garlic (DO NOT BURN!)
4. Fry meat of choice in oil, remove when cooked & set aside
5. Add noodles to pan, stirring and tossing quickly with 2 spatulas to separate the strands.
6. Add sauce, mix well, continue cook (if the noodles are still too firm, drizzle with 1 to 2 tablespoons of water to help them cook.)
7. Push food to one side, lower heat, scramble egg in other side, fold into noodles
8. Add cooked meat, ½ sprouts, onion, toss and heat thoroughly
9. Add cilantro, remainder of sprouts handful chopped peanuts, squeeze of lime, serve.

Serve w/ cold beer or Riesling

cooking is how i won my wife over.... i asked her out to dinner and cooked a kick ass meal... she has said that that's what won her over... before i moved over here, i used to cook 5-6 times a week... with my new work hours, i am hardly ever home to cook, i usually am warming a plate that she has left for me

Exploit your sexiness? By all means!

Now I'm picturing you in the kitchen in just some spandex and an apron, masterfully whipping up a fabulous meal for your woman...

I've always thought your nickname "Downunderman" was kinda sexy too.

Why, you are just a regular gourmand!

I cook about 99% of the time for my wife have always been like that. I do it because I like it, and also when she cooks 95% of the time it's bad, but I never tell her that. Oops!! hope she's not reading this now.

Well, I like to cook and I hate cleaning up, so that seems like a fair trade to me, but I have to say, there is no quicker way to make me a very very happy girl then to greet me as I come home from a long day at work with dinner. When I'm hungry, I'm cranky, and I want to eat right now -- and cooking is about the last thing on my mind.

So, cook on, my BT boys...the women in your life appreciate it.

I do 99% of the cooking at my house as well. Of course my office is 3.8 miles from home(I know that because I will occasionally run home for lunch) so I'm more available to do the cooking. That and it's more of a hobby for me. I truely enjoy cooking. I started in high school because my Mom didn't serve anything that didn't come in a box, and even though I was a heavy smoker in college, I still wanted to eat a healthy meal.

Good Luck,
Jay

Hey, I am not alone.  I also do most of the cooking at home because I get home way earlier than my wife.  I enjoy cooking when I am alone but I dislike it when there is someone else in the kitchen "helping" me.  Too many cooks and all that stuff.  I also set the table, clear the table and do the dishes!  :-)

I am very protective of my chefs knives, pans etc and ingredients used and also timing of disshes and techniques used.

I almost passed out and puked when I walked into MY kitchen and saw my mother-in-law using my very nice, very $$, very much mine-and-no-one-else-in-the-world-touches-it sashimi knife to core cabbage. I had to have my wife distract her so that I could wash, dry, hide and replace it with a different knife - you know, the VEGETABLE cutting knife That was when her 10 week visit started to go downhill a touch. Not that it would or could hurt the knife, but it's my sashimi knife and I don't feel like sharpening the blessed thing every time someone beats it up.

I also prefer to not have a sous chef unless they know what they are doing. Always move counter-clockwise, knives go point down or up, never out... Stuff like that. I prefer no help to "no help."

Jen is a good cook, but she prefers to have a recipe and all of the ingredients for it. That's the way she works. For whatever reason, she tries to get creative when she bakes (an absolute kitchen no-no), but cooking is by the book. She does like to play "Door-knock Dinner" with me though - "Hey Frank, we have a can of peas, some leftover hotwings and half of a blueberry bagel. See if you can come up with something good."

Does anyone else have "pork and chicken" cutting boards? As in ONLY use these for pork and chicken and when cutting pork or chicken ONLY use these?

-Frank

Ha! We've got about $500 - $600 of knives in our kitchen. When I use my parents' cottage, I bring a proper knife. I used to hide one up there (also a sashimi knife, sushi and sashimi on the lakeside is the way to go) but I got paranoid that somebody would find it and use it.

I bought a couple of knives last week at lunch, people in the office thought I was insane to spend $130 on two relatively small knives. I explained that they were almost 50% off!

My wife and I make a good team in the kitchen, but I like cooking more than her, it's all in the prep. When I'm done cooking a meal, the only washing up is what the food is still in.

My specialities? Butter chicken, maki sushi, risotto of all kinds including champagne and lobster, thai chicken and potato curry...

Just for you Chris we should ask Ron to ad another section to BT dedicated to swapping recipes. As for the "too GAY" comment most of aus shave our legs, so it really is only a natural progression to recipe swapping. By the way where are your neatly shaved pins photos?

I do about 50 -75% of the normal dinner cooking, but I do the cooking when we have guests, party or holidays.  I also bake, but my wife enjoys doing that, so I let her. We had a deal where I would cook and she would do the laundry, but we are both sharing the chores these day with 4 kids at home and both of us with full time jobs. We do try to get the kids to "help" with the chores, but its a long term project (like 18-20 years for each of them ).
