Subject: Hydration/Nutrition during HIM run - Gear Question

My first HIM is Eagleman next June.  I'm starting to figure out all the gear I might need to add to holiday gift lists.

I think I've narrowed down new gear for the bike portion.  But...

What do people do for nutrition and hydration during the run?  Wear a fuelbelt type  or Camelbak setup or just use the aid stations?

Thanks.

The simple solution and the one that works for me is to just use the aid stations.

First HIM this weekend, I'm planning on using only gels on the run, which I can store in my tri top pockets.  I'll eat a gel as soon as I know an aid station is coming up, then wash it down with their water.  That's the only time I'll use water on the run, otherwise it will be the aid station's sports drink.

For training I use a Nathan Elite 1 on my long runs.

For the actual event, I use the aid stations.  I also have a race belt (Fuel Belt Slim Pocket) with a pocket for chapstick, etc.

I have had hydration issues so I carry water with me. If there is a chance that you are going to be in very hot and humid conditions you may also want to carry some water or fluid with you.  And you probably want something for your long training runs.  I like the fuel belt. There are a number of varieties. Mine has 4 - 8oz flasks and a couple of pockets for carrying keys, gels and electrolyte pills during training.  The fuel belt for me is the most comfortable I have tried.  I am actually changing to a Nathan Hydration pack but I take in a lot more water than most.  Amazon.com has good deals.  I got one that is adjustable. Some of the models actually come sized.

Thanks much.

I used to run with an old Fuel Belt but found it a bit bouncy.

I currently do my long runs with a 1L Camelback.  Usually enough to get me through about 10 miles except on the hottest of days.  I might use it next year to make sure I always have liquid at hand if needed but will rely primarily on the rest stops.
