Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 222/267

Pre-race routine:

Not too much. Stood about in the rain and drizzle waiting for the race to start.
Event warmup:

Took a little swim.
Swim
  • 32m 14s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had a real hard time breathing during the first lap. I don't know why this was. People also kept pulling on my leg...holding on like I was supposed to pull them! :)

Didn't really care for the course, especially having to run out and and then run back in for the second lap.
What would you do differently?:

Go for a longer warm-up swim. Maybe line up towards the outside, rather than in the middle of the floating group.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Took my time on this. Don't really like rushing my transitions. I tend to forget things.
Bike
  • 1h 35m 57s
  • 40 kms
  • 25.01 km/hr
Comments:

I hated this course. There was one hill, and it wasn't even that long. I like hills. I don't like flat courses. I get bored with flat couses and end up going slow. And that's what I did here...went slow, slow, slow.

Also, the aid stations had cups of water. That was it. Water. No bananas. No sports drinks. No bottles. Cups of water.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, no rush.
Run
  • 49m 24s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 56s  min/km
Comments:

This went fine. The course had a ton of turns, but wasn't really all that great.

Again, only cups of water for this part too.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around. Mingle with folks at the end.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The fact that I took 3 weeks off of training between my last tri and this one.

Event comments:

Eh, I wouldn't reccommend this race. I don't think it was as well organized as the Sado Triathlon, even though this was part of the JTU (Japanese Trithlon Union). Granted, it was only and Olympic distance tri, but I think that aid stations should offer more than just cups of water.

And at the end of the race, I was handed two baggies with a small block of ice in them. What do I want a small block of ice for? Let alone two. How about handing me a bottle of water or something or a banana.

Also (even though this is only my second tri) I don't really care for races that have the location for the end of the race in a different place than the start. Things should be central, and I shouldn't have to hitch a ride to pick up my bike and wetsuit.

Maybe it's because of my bad performance (sour grapes), but I really didn't think this triathlon was worth coming to.

Congrats on doing an Oly!!

Sounds like logistically and from a amenities point of view it was lacking...but you did it!!

Awesome run time!! I'd love to swim as fast as you!

The Oly's that I'm familar with on the bike usually give out water bottles or gatorade no food.
