First, I've been active for years and doing tri's since '99.  But, for about 4 years (Jan 2006-Nov. 2009) I worked ridiculous hours, had hypothyroidism (undiagnosed) and gained 40 pounds.  This is a 90 day transformation using P90X and running only from 11/09 - 03/10.  The before is me doing escape from alcatraz (utterly exhausted from the unknown thyroid prob).  The after is me (at the age of 40) .  I actually weighed 10 pounds MORE than the before pic when I started P90X, but wouldn't allow a before shot so had to use this.  I weigh about 5 pounds more than my after pic right now, but the pic below is "race weight" of 110.

Impressive results in such a short time... and if I may say so... HOT.

I suppose that there's a natural assumption that SBR was the means to weight loss. For me, it was pure weight training and fixing my diet. I did zero cardio aside from recreational hiking, mountain biking, and swimming.

I started triathlon and running last year just for fun and have since lost much of my upper body muscle. The next few months are going to be nothing but running and weights.

Thanks!  The older I get, the less s/b/r tones me.  Actually, I think the only thing that tones me is strength training.  I do s/b/r because of course, that's what does burn the calories.   When there's all the debate on here about whether or not to ST, there's no debate for me (but I don't do ST for athletic performance).

Andi

I only did S/B/R for three years and my weight was pretty consistant within a couple of pounds. I started ST in January and lost 10 pounds within a month. I have since gained the weight back, but my waist size has remained the same, so I'm saying it's muscle mass.

For me it was running and calorie counting for the first 50 lbs but I will say that sbr was responsible for a much fitter look and 10 more lbs.  I did strength training 2x a week (jillian michael's dvd) for a year.  Haven't done any in about 8 months.  Thinking of starting it back up as soon as this HIM and marathon is out of the way.

First picture was taken 4th of July 2010 at my peak of about 196lbs. My weight loss started with change in diet and minimal exercise in September 2010. Tri training started in March 2011. The second picture was taken Labor day Weekend September 2011 at 163lbs. Lost a total of 33 lbs and counting, I hope to be racing at 145 - 150lbs next spring.

At my heaviest in 2006 I was 290lbs.

At my leanest last July I was 188lbs.

Today I have gained some weight and I am at 220lbs.

I am looking to use completing triathlons as the catalyst for my lifestyle change. I have a goal weight of around 165-170lbs.

Me at 175~ and now at 140~
the picture is 1 year apart. Ive weighed about 140 since December... i can't seem to gain any weight back due to high metabolism and high training load. 3 more weeks till IMCDA and then i should be able to put some lb's back on lol.

Bump... A little added motivation for anyone going into this weekend.. Its a great thread.. Mine aren't as drastic as the others but I am down about 35lbs from when that picture was taken of me with no shirt on.... The ice cream picture was about a month ago 2 nights before the flying pig marathon. The group pic is me on the far right (white kit) last weekend after a 65 mile charity ride for breast cancer

I started my journey in Sept of 2008 and lost about 80 pounds in the first 8 months, then lost another 20 in the next four to reach my 100 pound goal! I discovered triathlon and when I did my first "See Jane Tri" mini tri in June of 09 and God willing.... I am hoping to do my first iron distance race this summer at Challenge Penticton!
