Subject: Pre-race Music: What do you listen to?

Before bike races (and most recently tri's) I always get myself motivated by music.  My MP3 player is always loaded with an assortment of goodies...usually fast paced and angry.

I'm interested in what one song gets you going.  For me is 'Power Trip' by a band named Chimaira.  You can watch the video of this song/band by clicking here... http://launch.yahoo.com/video/default.asp?vid=2171481  You'll have to wait through a 30 second commercial from Yahoo before the song begins.

What one song gets you motivated and race ready?

Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Yes, an oldie, but if I'm feeling nervous or worried, this reminds me that this is all about having fun on race day.

i discovered that i have a "music crash" back when i played football. if i listen to all this angry music and whatnot i get all pumped up. then its time to put up the headphones. then wait. then stretch. then play. somewhere in there all that music high just turns into the aural equivalent of a sugarhigh-crash.

so instead i listen to music that makes me happy, keeps me incredibly optimistic and gets me in a great rythm and keeps my heart rate low (yes music affects the heart rate).

in other words:

funk.

one of my friends has made me a mixed cd of stuff for this seasons races that he is going to give me on the way to my first race this season on the 16th of Oct so looking forward to seeing whats on this cd.

I haven't run a race to try this at yet, but I've got a plan. I loaded up my Rio with songs in the 85-90 bpm range and I'm going to listen to that pre-race. I figure that way I can have a tempo to keep in my head on the bike and run, regardless of what type it is. Even Yanni...

I like nickleback (anything), motley crue(hooligans holiday wildside), skid row(monkey business), ratt (nobody rides for free), ac/dc (big balls) and foo fighters (all my life and best of you).

I like anything up beat.

I tell you what I am looking for, when I was younger and ran on the cross country team at college we used to listen to this song "look out for number 1" it was from the staying alive movie and was sung by frank stallone. I would love to be able to find that and put it on my IPOD' It was a great song to pump you up to.

Not to correct you but I am a HUGE frank stallone fan and I believe Tommy Faragher sang "look out for number 1".

At my tri in Erie, while we were heading out to the beach, the DJ started playing "Eye of the Tiger", which I thought was great. Then I come sprinting down the beach freezing my ass off, and as I pass the speakers, I hear Queen singing "BIIIICYCLE! BIIICYCLE!!!"...like, OK, I forgot what happens next. I got a good laugh out of it.

I dont know, I like angry music, but for some reason, running with Less Than Jake's "Last Hour of the Last Day of Work" has been doing it for me, and the Beatles "Help!" is a good way to pick up my pace.

Before IMWI one of the songs on my MP3 was "Beautiful Day" by U2.

Listening to that song and looking over the lake as the sun rises...there is nothing more motivating and relaxing at the same time!
