Subject: Handlebar Ends Popping off after a visit to the shop

Just had TheTrek overhauled, and I get her back yesterday. I don't know if the shop didn't tape the handle bars right or what, but the little plastic part that plugs the end keeps popping out, on both sides.

They taped the handle bars pretty far down. Should I take it back to the shop to have them redo it, or is that considered being too picky? They won't stay in place so I can't do it myself, but how can they expect me to take a bike where parts are just popping off?

I am not happy at all with the job that they did, When I specifically asked them if they could keep all my angles so that I didn't have to get refit, they said sure no problem. When I picked her up yesterday it was so obviously not my settings. I'm just annoyed with the whole experience with Capitol Cyclery.

If they screwed up your fit, talk to them about it. They should have measured your settings before taking things apart. Maybe y'all can work things out satisfactorily. As for the end caps, I often put a couple of strips of tape around them to assure a tight fit.

Yeah...that's just no good. I'd ask them to professionally fit you, and if they don't offer the service, I'd ask them to pay for someone else to do it.

Thanks for the advice, I just called them. Talk to a manager, they said that they would have the owner call me back when he got back from lunch. We'll see what he says.

Bring it back.  You should not feel bad about expecting them to do the job right.  And be sure they put in the end plugs properly. Diamondman half IM rules explicitly stated that all bikes had to have secure end plugs to be certified for the race.  You don't want a small thing like that to ruin your day.

Having just seen this post I feel obligated to reply. There are more than one Capitol Cyclery's in BR. There are 3. Only one of them is "high" end. I can garauntee you that you did not bring it to the one on Essen Lane (which is the one to bring it to for high end bikes like your trek).

While those little cap pieces pop off of my KHS all the time it doesn't seem like a major thing but I'm sure that it is easily rectified. Definately call them (but this time call the one on Essen) and I'm sure Darren can / would get you refitted.

He is too anal about that kind of stuff (marking measurements, etc..) to not do that...

If they didn't mark your seat post and stuff I bet they would be glad to fix that for you too.
