Welcome,

There are a few others from the Chicago area, I'm a couple hours away.

Isn't Accenture the one with 8000 participants or something?

Welcome to the site. Why wait until the end of August to do your first tri? There are plenty of good ones before Accenture. Look at www.trifind.com over the next few months. There are some good races in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Welcome to BT! So, where in Chicago are you from? I'm in the southern burbs, and am always looking for someone to train with, if you're interested!

Welcome!

Sigh, I love the Windy City and almost moved there a year ago. I still frequent Chicago and stay in River North when I'm in town.

Whereabouts do you train?

Hi! I'm out past the western suburbs -DeKalb.

Maybe we could do an indoor tri this winter. Or a group training session. Or ride together come spring. We should really figure something out for the Chicago folks.

Welcome to the site.

Forgot to mention, my in-laws live in Elgin so we are are out there some weekends.

Weekend/Sunday run training would be cool.  No pun on the weather either.

Checking in from Crystal Lake, IL. I did the same thing you did, sort of. Started working out just to get in shape and then out of curiosity I went to watch the Lake Zurich triathlon in August. I was totally blown away by the sense of community, fun and excitement. I've always wanted to do this, but right then and there I decided was DEFINITELY doing this. I've been training a few months now and I can't wait to start signing up for races next year. Lake Zurich will be my big "A" race (OLY) but I want to do a couple of sprints earlier in the year. I think it would be great if a bunch of us newbies got together early in the season for a race to help quell the butterflies of our first (or in some cases second, third, whatever) race. It seems like most of us live too far apart to train together, but I'd be up for meeting at races.

Hi - I am near Joliet too (Lockport) Turned 35 this year, had 2 babies in 3 years = need something to get my body back. I am thinking about Accenture next August also, except I am not a strong swimmer. Any advice for a total out of shape newbie would be appreciated!!!

Just get out there and start doing it!  Pick one of the Couch-to-5k or Couch-to-sprint programs online here and jump in.    I run out in Lockport occasionally -- I'm always surprised at how hilly it can get out that way!!

Checking in from Evanston (actually) here! Used to live in Madison for awhile too! The Accenture Tri sounds like great fun! Who's going to go to this one? Also, there is a Women's triathlon in Naperville in the beginning of the season. It's a sprint length and possibly a good one to "warm-up" by.

I did the Naperville Reebok women's tri this past year and really enjoyed it.  A little more of a low-key environment with it all being women.  Pretty well organized, as well.

If you like, I'll be more than happy to come out to your next race and give you a hearty "You go, girlfriend!" as you go by.

I'd love to see that if only to see the expression on my wife's face. I'd have to make sure you were standing near her though.

BTW, congratulations on your White Sox.

Naperville checking in here...I highly recommend the Naperville Tri, I worked it as a volunteer last year, and it was a well run event.  Besides, how often do you get to say you were in your first tri competing against top notch Triathletes?  Nicole DeBoom did it last year

Checking in from Woodridge, I did the Sprnt at the Chicago Last year. Great Race. This year I will be in the International distance. I train with about 5 friends here in the area between Naperville and Downers Grove. Just so you all know if you are planning on the Accenture Tri in August 27th 2006 you'd better sign up soon. Registration has already begun and it fills up fast. Just a reminder and suggestion. www.chicagotriathlon.com
