Just saw the Ironhead Triple Tri Challenge on Ironhead Race Production's website (http://www.ironheadrp.com/calendar/calendar.htm).

Anyone familiar with this?

What are your thoughts on progressing from a sprint in June to an oly in July to a HIM in September? Just right? Agressive? Too fast?

Bill

Thanks Aaron. I assume it's worthwhile to go ahead and buy one of those timing chip gizmos? Coming from the world of cycling, this swimming and running business is all new to me.

If you do the distance challenge in Austin you need to have your own chip. Not sure if the Ironhead Challenge has the same policy or not (it might not since the events are all put on by the same race company).

I say get the timing chip. It costs aound $30 for a one time fee and you get to avoid a lot of time waiting in lines to pick up timing chips. Of course not all races use the same chips, I always check mine before the race (usually this can be done at the expo the day prior).

Well, I'm with you on the Triple Tri Challenge. With a couple Oly's under my belt from last season, I like the framework of the Sprint to Half progression. That easily frames the tri season for me this year, but I'll add local 10K races and plenty of bike rally's in between to round out the season.

If you have some tri experience, this progression should work out well for you as well. The Sprint distances seem to be a waste, they seem so short, but we'll see.

We are fortunate in this "neck of the woods" because there seems to be plenty of events that are "local" and we don't really have to travel that far, which is good if you attempt to balance family time and the checkbook at once.

I just wish Jack would get finisher medals, I, for one, sure do like them medals!

I was interested in this Challenge.  Sprint -- check.... Olympic -- already there... HIM -- alas, baby #2 is due in August, so no late-season HIM training for me.

I may wind up doing all three but not sure if I want to commit to the 1/2 IM too soon. I plan on using the oly as a "self qualifyer" to see determine if I should do a race with a run that long. I can't run much and had trouble with the 1/2 marathon in Dallas in December just barely making it in 1:37.

Still it's not a bad deal if you sign up for all three races for about $200. In other parts of the country people seem to pay much more.
