Finished the two day ride (102 miles on Sat. avg. 16 pace & 80 miles on Sun avg. 19.5 pace).
Approx. 80 Firefighters from Houston and Austin volunteered EMS services on the ride, we had a great time. I've been training on flat roads so the hills really gave me he## the first day. However after talking to other riders and mostly triathletes training on this ride I made some changes and WOW! the second day was much more enjoyable. The point is if you get a change to ride in an event this size talk to other people and ask question, it will pay off, besides meeting new people are what it is all about. Still had to take monday off due to the sore legs. Be Safe.

Changes made: 1) used largest (three rings) front cog more on flat areas. 2) used middle front cog and shifted between middle 3 or 4 rear cogs on hills. 3) standing slightly up from the seat when climbing hills, I was training w/ road racers and was taught to never leave the seat. 4) since alot of time was spent on the areo bars, the suggestion was made to move my seat forward slightly, this is to help you kept the power in your stoke when lying on your bars. I really felt this helped greatly.

I did the ride also. 84 miles day 1. 70 day 2. I took the slightly shorter route. I had never been further than 38 miles so I kept a slower pace (15mph) in order to finish. Will continue to train for distance, then speed. AND THE HILLS WERE HE##
