Subject: Wetsuit Question

Ok, today I tried my wetsuit for the first time. it was in a pool. De Soto 2 piece wetsuit

I've read that using a wetsuit is suppose to make it less laborus during your swim. I found it to be the opposite, it seemed like I was expending much more energy then without one. my breathing was faster and my arms became tired quicker.

It did keep me boyant though, I felt as though I was swimming downhill. Also, I was swimming faster.  And I must say that I looked pretty cool :-)

Anyone experience the same thing? maybe I just need more practice in the suit??

Thanks

LA

i would say give it a chance for several swims...i have only worn various wetsuits for scuba - from thin to thck...maybe the slight restrictiveness just needs to be gotten used to for a few times?

Second piece of advice--use that "downhill swimming" feeling to your advantage. Lengthen your strokes, glide more and enjoy the "free speed". Resist the temptation to increase your stroke count. Unless you are a really proficient swimmer, this can be counter-productive and can wear you out.
It takes some getting used to but one you do you will find that wetsuit swimming is a slower cadence but faster swim.

Hope that helps,
Paul

I agree with Tri-Wog. The more I swim in my wetsuit the more I learn, the easier it is. I've learned to slow down my stroke, take longer strokes, make sure I breathe....and I'm feeling it and liking it. Have been avoiding the pool b/c of it and am trying to open water swim to train now....

good l uck!
