Decided to spend Xmas $ on a sleeveless (1 swim wb in 62-65 degree water others 70ish)

Comparing IM Instinct John @ $125 and Promotion Fluid Drive @ $160.

Thoughts on those 2? And/or do I "need" to spend $200 (the next level up for both makers)?

Thnx,
Mark

I would try them on first. Wetsuits fit people very differently. I love my IM Instinct, really hated some other brands, cut into the neck, arms, etc.

First, why a sleeveless?  Nothing wrong with sleeveless but a full suit will always be faster than a comparable sleeveless...even if only marginally.  As for which brand...probably isn;t much difference between the same level from each maker but they may fit you slightly differently.  I have a ProMotion PowerGlide full and it's great...very high quality wetsuit.  ProMotion is a fantastic company as far as customer support is concerned.  They're happy to take time to discuss which size might be best for you and will gladly let you exchange sizes or even ship you 2 different sizes to compare and send one back.  Don't forget that you get a 15% discount for being a BT member.

Most of my swims are in water around 70 degrees as my season goes from late May to August. Just figured sleeves are overkill, not worth the effort and can save a few bucks. All3 running a 2 day sale so I can get the IM for under $125

if you can get a IM for $125 i would say go for it, even though i swim in a Pro Motion.  I also swim sleevless.  I feel the sleevless gives my shoulder more mobility.

Mark,
I'm expecting my Promotion Power Glide tomorrow. I went with Promotion based on what others stated about their products, customer service, BT 15% discount, etc. I called and had a pleasant conversation with them about their products. I went up on to the Power Glide based on the exterior is a more durable with the Glide Skin. I also like the fact that if the water here in FL gets any colder than the ~60F it is now, then I can order the matching Tri Sleeves which turns it into a full sleeve.

You may also want to check out Trisports.com. I have heard their wetsuit return policy is awesome. They actually suggest that you try it out (as long as you don't lube it up or go in salt water). If it doesn't fit, or you don't like it, you can send it back. If you have the resources (which I don't) you could order 3-4, try them all and then send the ones you don't like back for a full refund. Pr3etty sweet option for those who can afford it. good luck with your search!

SOrry if I am going a little off topic, I am also looking at purchasing my 1st wetsuit. Tell me, do you spend more energy swiming with a wetsuit? I know they are faster due to boyancy but I would think that it takes more energy to complete a stroke in a full length wetsuit then without it?

Can someone clarify?

Hey Mark,
Nice buy! Bring it with you next year when you do the Space Coast 1/2 or Full Marathon and maybe we can enjoy some local OW swims!
