Subject: TV commercials

Santa brought MarkK and I a trainer for Christmas....yay!  Before it's arrival I rarely watched TV outside the 10pm episode of Law & Order (and I usually fell asleep during it).  Since we got the trainer and I'm on a break from school I've been watching a lot more though.

Is it me, or are there an awful lot of commercials for weight loss products?  During 1 1/2 ER reruns I saw commercials for Weight Watchers, Sears (featuring new workout stuff), and GNC's new women's  "dietary aide".

Is it always like this or is it just the New Year's Resolution thing?  I swear the GNC commercial almost had me falling off the trainer I was laughing so hard at the ridiculous promises (16 pounds in  8 weeks or something, I don't remember exactly).

Its a New Years thing. Give it a month and the commercials will all be food-unhealthy stuff too.

Forget regular tv.  Pop in a movie and pedal away.   Spinervals are good too.  Happy pedaling

In a few weeks, they will be touting Tosistos and beer just in time for the Super Bowl.

Said while eating cheesecake in front of the computer.  Run at 7.

Yes, this is the way to go. I'm not much of a tv watcher (24 and Lost being the only shows I have to watch) but I joined Netflix for the sole purpose of having stuff to watch on the trainer.

Just a new years thing... I in the spinervals crowd. I get a higher quality workout and the time seems to go faster than watching tv or movies.

Same with the crowds at the gym. Mine's as crowded as a 1/2 price sale at the US Mint! Hang in there, things will be back to normal in 4-6 weeks.

Yeah, that part I'm used to.  It was cool when I was personal training though, January I would make the most $!! At the gym last night I was sorely tempted to try to pick up a client or two...but then school will start and I will be losing my mind again.

I wish I could join Netflix but *sigh* we just can't afford another bill right now.  Besides, I LIKE old ER and Law & Order reruns.  Altho I did go this morning to Blockbuster to rent disks 2 & 3 of the 1st season of House - woohoo!  And The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy    This is my good week- next week I'm painting the living room (BOO)

OH!  I saw the women's weight loss product commercial and I have to correct myself...it's sold at GNC but other places as well so probably not produced by them.  And the woman who "lost 37 lbs in 8 weeks" had the old "results not typical" disclaimer under her before & after pics, of course.

PS mmmmmm cheesecake

What you don't realize is that for the cost of these 3 movies, you could have joined Netflix--and Netflix would have been cheaper. $9.99/month.

RIGHT...but that's 9.99 EVERY month, and I only get to do this for a couple of weeks.  Altho I probably will get in at least 1 trainer session a week after school starts so thank you for the point TriComet....

Right. I'm not a huge movie renter, but I have been since riding the trainer. There are all kinds of tv shows and documentaries on Netflix too.

$10/month was worth it for me. Even if you only get 3 movies in a month (I've been getting 1-2 a weeks since I joined).

What Haley said.

Slightly off topic, a really good trainer workout is to watch an hour show and work your @ss off while the show is on, recovering during the commercials.

no, it's backwards.  Commercials are for spinning/mashing because they're not worth watching and are usually longer than whatever show you're watching.   It's easier to follow if you're not pedaling away in a frenzy.
