Overall Rank = 382/1007

Age Group Rank = 49/92
Pre-race routine:

Had a chocolate chip cookie and some water before leaving at 6. Stopped for a breakfast taco and a diet coke on the way. Had a couple of peanut butter cheese crackers before race time.
Event warmup:

Got there plenty early and started moving around to get my blood flowing. Walking, jumping jacks, etc. Ran for about 5 minutes and then stretched really well. I made sure to focus on getting my ankles limber and my calves stretched. I felt pretty good at race time.

Comments:

Very solid run overall. My pacing was right on. The first 5 miles were down wind and then you turned into it. On the first lap I did a very good job of getting on people's shoulders to get a break from it. With everyone spread out, it was much more difficult on the second lap. My nutrition was right on, because I really felt pretty strong the whole way. Mile 11 was a disaster because I had to veer off course to use the rest room. I had held it so long by that point, that I couldn't go! It took forever.

I walked every drink station and at least 2 glasses of water at each. That worked out very well.
What would you do differently?:

During the race, nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched some, ate food, drank some water and Powerade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training hard the week before and not at all the month before that!

Event comments:

Some drink stations were a bit short on volunteers on the first lap. Given the wind, it might have been good to have some extra stops. As it was, they had them every two miles.

Well, the cookie was one of the chocolate chip ones from the HEB grocery. Sooooo good. The breakfast taco seemed like a decent choice, carbs, protein, a little fat. The DC is simply a necessity for me. I need my caffeine. The crackers were an after thought. I had one of those 6 cracker packages left from another race. I figured I needed a few more calories before the start, so I had a couple. I took the other 4 out on the course along with a small Cliff bar and 4 gels.

It worked for me! I couldn't get my normal pre-race bagel and egg sandwich because Einstein Brothers wasn't open yet.

Wooo, nice race Dennis. Man I wish I could hold that 9:14 pace for 20 miles, or even just a half marathon.
