I seem to have tried everything- body glide on my feet/toes, using bandaids (which somehow fall off), wearing two socks, one dri fit and the other cotton...anything else you guys have used to avoid blisters on long runs? It's really getting frustrating because my feet feel like they are being rubbed raw. Should I try taping my feet with some kind of athletic tape or something? Grrr...

If two pairs of socks didn't do the trick...it's probably the shoes. Did you have a running store work with you for the fit? I wear two pairs of dri fit and I've never had a hot spot.

Is it your shoes? Maybe you need a shoe with a larger toe box so that your feet do not rub so much. I would think that your feet would develop callouses after time and you would stop getting so may blisters. Try utter cream (you can buy it at walmart) it is great for blisters, heals them quickly.....gymnasts use it on their hands for blisters. The athletic tape might work-it wont help you figure out why you are getting the blisters....but it would stay on better than bandaid....get the utter cream at least it will help your healing.... Maybe you just have really sweaty feet!

Good Luck

Which toes?

I'd say it is potentially a few things.

1. Maybe bad shoes. Either too tight or too loose in the toe area.
2. You sweat a lot through your feat. Wearing two pairs of sox will actually compund this problem and cause more issues.

Maybe try running without socks and see what happens?

I agree that the 2 pairs of socks is probably not a good idea. Check the shoe fit.

Are you getting blisters BETWEEN two toes? This happens to me, and for the longest time I couldn't figure out how to solve the problem -- two socks or double layer socks obviously don't help this problem. If this is the case, there are some socks made by Injinji that have individual toes, kinda like those rainbow socks from the 70s, but made from thin, wicking material. They are a bit hard to find. None of my local running stores carry them, so I always order them online from REI. Supposedly you can buy them online direct from Injinji, but their payment website never works for me. Here's a link: http://www.injinji.com/

I would also suggest ditching the cotton socks....they don't wick away moisture. I love the dual layer Wright Socks that are a better alternative than wearing 2 separate pairs of socks.

I would look at the shoes first, go get fitted. I always do that and I have been running some long runs lately and have had no problems; also Balga socks rock!!!

No blisters and almost 100 miles this month

Try liquid bandage. It is usually used on blisters, but seems to work pretty good at protecting against blisters as well. Creates a hard/surface on the area where you get blisters.

Where are getting the blisters? It sounds like a shoe fit problem.  Some shoes are worse than others, and it varies from pair to pair even of the same model.

Also, what kind of socks are you wearing?

This stuff does work.  I also use Second Skin by Spenco or Compeed by Band-Aid on my athletes with great success.

what they said.

Cotton is a HUGE no no. Go buy some smart wool running socks. They are amazing. If that doesn't help, then definatly go to a running shop and have them make sure the shoes fit.

I would say check your shoes and make sure a running store has you fitted. NO cotton, only one pair of socks but maybe try a thicker pair or thinner pair.

Regarding shoe sizing I wear 1 size bigger then normal shoes and I can slip in and out of mine without even touching the laces.

Also are you giving them time to heal?

Good luck.

FWIW, I stopped getting blisters after the good-running-store guy sold me some shoes that are a half size LARGER than my normal shoe size. He measured me an 8, told me "okay, so you wear 8 1/2." I was surprised, but gave it a go. My blisters were only on the inside part of my foot, around the ball of the foot. Since the new shoes, nothing, not even during the 1/2 marathon a coupla weeks ago. Actually for all the body parts that hurt after that race, my feet felt fine.

I may have the cure its called mole skin. When I was doing long hikes in boots it was the only thing that would work and thats what it is made for. Any drug store will have it in the foot isle. Make sure your foot is dry when you stick it on and it will stick real good. It's tan and a little fuzzy looking comes 6" about 3" and you cut to fit the spot. I don't know if they still call it mole skin so look for my descripton of it.
