Subject: Road ID: What do you wear?
This is in referance to the recent post about always wearing your ID when you train. I got a gift certificate for Road ID for christmas and was debating on which one to get. I am thinking the wrist band or the ankle band, because I don't like wearing a necklace. Any comments or complaints with any of them. Also what quote should be on there? I will be ordering mine soon.

hahaha, i'm debating the same thing.

I'm getting the ankle band as I already have a watch on and I don't like a lot of stuff on my wrist. Besides the ankle band will get me used to wearing a chip band for when I race.

My quote so far is:

If you can read this:
Carry me to T2

I ordered the ankle band - I thought it would be good for swimming since it's neoprene, plus I already have 800 other things strapped to my wrist.

I didn't have room for a quote on mine

I have an ankle band RoadID, wear it any time I go out on the bike or for a run.  I picked the ankle band for just that reason, easy to toss it around my ankle no matter what I'm wearing for shoes, socks, or any thing else.  The wife wears one as well.

Chris.

After reading the other post...I am placing my order tonight for the ankle ID.  I realized that there are times I am many miles from home on my bike and God forbid anything hapens, nobody would know who I am.

I have the ankle band and it is wonderful.  Only thing that gets me is that some days I go for a long run and, by the time I'm done, I have a chafed area on my achilles tendon from it.

I have the ankle one.  The length of the band is longer than the wrist one and I wanted to be able to wear it both on my wrist and sometimes on my ankle.

I would never put my SS# anywhere so that was not a choice for me.  I'm not even sure about insurance # since that can change frequently.

All I have on mine is:

line 1: First Name Last Name

line 2: City, State, Country

Line 3-6:  4 emergency contacts and phone numbers

If you have any medical conditions (asthma, diabetes, etc.) you should put that down. If you have any allergies, as was previously said, especially to any medicines like Penicillin, sulfa etc. that needs to be on the id, as that is more important than an phone number, because it tells the medical people what not to give you. SSN and insurance number is unnecessary, and having your social on it is a bad idea due to all that identity stuff. If you're unconscious, the hospitals have to treat you anyway. On the RoadID website they tell you more about what to and what not to put on the tag.

but they can virtually punch your SSN in at the hospital and pull up your exact identity instead of trying to figure out which one of 5 people with the same name you are. I also don't see how it's a huge theft risk, after all it's attached to my ankle

I see you lying in the street half conscious and I take your wallet and watch and notice something on your ankle.  I take it and then ride off on your bike to my house.

I take all the information down, and then return your stuff to the local police and just say I found the wallet and stuff on the street somewhere.

Because I returned it, you may not think of anything is up since you don't think it's a problem to begin with.  You may cancel the credit cards and such but probably not the SS.

The identity theft begins.

I have the shoe ID, and I now wish I had the band b/c I only have it attached to my running shoes.  The shoe ID is great for runners, not so great for triathletes!   But regardless, it's an excellent idea.

I have the shoe band for my running shoes and it is great b/c there is no chaffing. As for the bike, I usually put ID in my pack or camelbak. However, they do make an ID to put in your helmet. Any have a link to this?

I've been using the necklace for the last 6 months or so - no problems at all. Mine has name, hometown, two contact phone numbers and DONATE ORGANS AND PARTS.I spent a whole bunch of time beefing up my heart and lungs, if someone else can use them if I'm wiped out by a bus, I want the EMT's on scene to know. Of course, the front side has TRIATHLETE!!!!Dennis

I'll mention this in this thread so sorry for any duplication or those who read the John doe thread.

Nike ID you can customize with your last name or phone number (anything that's not a swear word)

I also wear my dog tags when I bike and sometimes when  I run.

Ditto - I had room for my name - 2 contact numbers, a NKA and blood type line with my medical id plan and number  - no cute quote. Got 2 bands though - one for my neck and the neoprene band for the swim. I have grown attached to mine so much that I wear it even when I don't work out (drives my fiancee nuts) - it never hurts I guess.

I was debating the shoe vs. ankle ID for me with my sister. First thing she says to me "If you get attacked, they might take your shoes." So, no, I wouldn't put my SSN on there. Full name and birthday, the hospital will know who you are.

What would be cool, is if the wrist ID could also act as my watch band. 2 in one. Then it would be a no brainer to get the wrist over the ankle.

I just bought the wrist Road ID and like it a lot. My thought process was, if injured, I am not sure how many people would look at your shoes or ankle for idenification. That is why I went with the wrist ID.

I put First and last name, town and state, 2 emergancy contacts, NKA, blood type and organ donor.

I have the shoe ID for running. Don't need it on the bike - I throw my license in the pack for that. Shoe ID has: Name, City State, home phone & phone #'s for other family.

For all of you concerned about the SSN - I work in security and have done quite a bit of anti-identity theft work in my career. Now I'm not advocating that you put the SSN on your ankle if you're uncomfortable with it, however, those numbers are so easy to get these days. Google yours one day if you are ready for a shock.
