I'm training for the Chesapeake Bay 1mile challenge this June. I was wondering how many yards I should be getting in each weak to ready me for this swim. I've been told, and believe, it will be a lot more difficult to swim a mile with current and waves than what I'm used to in the pool. Any suggestions?

When I did a 1.5 mile open water swim I was swimming 3000 yds a time about every other day.

I never swam more than 1760 at a time. I would usually break out the workouts into 400 and 500 sets. Mix in Kicks, pulls etc....I finished the 1.5 mile swim event in 48 mins. I was gassed, the chop was killer and I was thrown around quite a bit. BUT LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT

I only did one open water swim before the event, which I regret. Lake Mich was very choppy and I could have used the practice, espically with sighting.

The open water forum has lots of tips etc...
