Expert 897 Seattle WA | Subject: 85-90rpm/cadence music? Hi everyone, I'm trying to get my running cadence up to ~85-90 footfalls per foot per minute. I've been counting my strides but I usually start to slow down to my usual 70-80 cadence. I thought it would be useful to get some music with an appropriate rhythm. Does anyone know of any songs that have a beat that would be appropriate for this?
THanks!! and happy monday |

Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? There are some sites out there that DJs use that have songs sorted by their bpm. If someone is technically savvy, I reallythink there would be some interest in a 180bpm music podcast, which would work well for runners and cyclists, maybe something an hour long that would be updated weekly. Master 1661 Newbury Park, CA | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? **Big disclaimer - I haven't used this tool but have heard about it** This is a bpm plugin for iTunes. It will examine your library and tag all the songs with their bpm. I think there are more sites as well. Windows and Mac http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Dashboard-Widgets/Music/bpmWidget.shtml |

If someone is technically savvy, I reallythink there would be some interest in a 180bpm music podcast, which would work well for runners and cyclists, maybe something an hour long that would be updated weekly. Now you can search through itunes and find the PODRUNNER podcasts, which feature a two-hour mix of 180BPM music. The poor fellow is a little overwhelmed with the response, though, with something like 8,000 downloads in the past week his server is not able to handle the volume. I'll admit I haven't had any luck in downloading this myself, though I'll try again tonight. |

Champion 8903 | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? I also have a program that increases or decreases the speed of an MP3 file without changing the pitch. Conversely, you can also use it to change the pitch without changing the speed (good for matching a song to a musical instrument without re-tuning). You might want to do a web search for something like this. I'm at work so can't tell you the URL of the site where I got it, but I think it was from a company in Sweden called RoniMusic. Now you might not want to turn some ridiculously slow song into 90 bpms, but it's handy for matching a bunch of tunes with similar beat structure.

Been working on 90 bpm mix and used the Mixmeister BPM Analyzer (free) to get the bpm of my music. Pretty cool/easy to use program. Be interested what tunes others have that are in this range. Here's what I've got (though I wouldn't use a lot of them someone else might be interested):

Extreme Veteran 481 Coppell | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? I was going to recommend MixMeister BPM as well. It's very effective, but only works on unprotected files. Purchased music in the M4P format cannot be analyzed for some reason, but I always convert mine. I don't have access to my library at here at the office, but I have found hundreds in that range. Eminem Lose Yourself is one I always remember and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's performance of Lorretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough" from the Be Cool soundtrack is as well. I guess those are opposite sides of the spectrum, but they're great in a workout! Edited by pds0006 2006-08-31 8:01 AM |

Master 2629 brummie land | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? not sure of the bpm BUT the sound track to the film Pi has lots of fast sounding music. also PWEI (Pop Will Eat Itself) do lots of fast music - check out anything from their Cure for Sanity album or anything more recent. Not sure how helpful these are as i never listen to music when i work out and i am tone deaf. i went to a spinning class once and lets just say the idea of pedalling on the beat never quite made sense On amore sensible note both things recommended above are brilliant music - just ask Z-dog about PWEI if you don't believe me!

Veteran 332 Calgary | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? I've used the PodRunner mixes before, and if you like house/electronic mixes, they are good for keeping the pace up. I don't run with music anymore, but the PodRunner mixes definately helped me get my run cadence up to 85+ when I was starting out. What's nice about them is that he has a wide variety of mixes for different paces - from 130 up to 180BPM, so you can start with something a bit faster than your current pace and slowly work your way up with each run. The first time I listened to the 180BPM mixes I though there was no way that anyone could possibly run that fast! |

That would be great. Like the old Napster days! Unfortunately it's kind of illegal now. I tried the programs mentioned for changing the BPM without changing the pitch. They work great but MixMiester Express gets my vote. Don't know if I'm willing to shell out the $50 for the non-demo however. |

Veteran 279 Tucson, AZ | Subject: RE: 85-90rpm/cadence music? Just to expand on what people touched on here... I tried the freeware version of Mixmeister... worked pretty well as far as I can tell. Since I use iTunes, the next step I did was update the ID3 tags for all my mp3's (the Mixmeister program updated the ID3 info with the BPM data, but you have to get iTunes to recognize the new bpm info... to do this just select all the songs in your library (ctrl+A) and then right-click and select "Get Info". Don't do anything other than click 'OK' and iTunes will update all the ID3 info in the database). Anyhoo, after all that you can create a smart-playlist to automatically grab any songs with a BPM of 90 (I actually had it select anything between 89 and 91). |
