Subject: What defines your "easy" or "recovery" week?

Do you reduce distances/time spent in the 3 sports, or reduce your level of effort, or both? Take an additional day off?

I try to reduce volume as opposed to quality of work. The long run and ride as well as the intermediate ones all get time reductions I don't really change my swim right now because its mostly drill focused. I also try to maintain sport frequency in recovery weeks.

I reduce intensity and time to give my body a week of actual rest... My intensity is about 25% less and volume is half the previous week. I usually come out of this week feeling refreshed and ready to go again...

I'm doing a four week periodization.

My recovery week starts with two full days completely off from training, then cuts back the rest of the week to about the equivalent of the second week of the last cycle. Other than the workouts I lose on Tuesday as my second rest day (my normal rest days are Monday) I still do the same amount of workouts for the week.

I'm terrified of planning time off because I'm afraid it will be followed by unplanned time off.  I figure the little things in life that pop up and prevent me from working out are my recovery times.  Otherwise I'd get very angry when those things did pop up.  Besides, in about 6 weeks when hangloose #3 comes along I think I will be on an extended recovery period.

Just do like me and take two weeks off from work when the next little one comes alone. In some ways I expect to get MORE training accomplished then over what I normally would .....

I reduce my volume by 30-50% depending on the phase and I also cut back on the intensity

Ha!  It's been a few years since I've taken two weeks off in the same year!  O the joys of being the boss.  I took two days off when my daughter was born, I think I will top that this time.

I have a coach and when I have rest recovery week, I usually have 2-3 days off, the other days are one a days instead of two and less intensity.

I'm 44 and after working with my coach almost a year we have down better what works for me. Normal weeks are 5 days with two a days and one day with one workout....3 of bike, swim, run (soccer counts as a run), and 2 strength.

This week is a rest week!!!!!

I'm following the plan from this site: 20wk 2x balance Oly.

Every 4 weeks is a -40% volume week. But the training schedule, what events on what days stays the same.

Seems to work well. I finished my last "recovery" week feeling refreshed, and ready to go.
