Myrtle Beach qualifier vindicated?

Apparently ITU has a rule about the combination of water and air temps, and they cancelled the swim this morning.  TT start.

Water temps are apparently mid to upper 50s, air is around 40, maybe upper 30s.  So what do you think?  Good rule or not?

(Full disclosure:  My swim is, um, second-rate (at best), but I'm still pretty disappointed not to get to swim in this beautiful lake.)

Perfect hypothermia conditions is 50 when your wet.  So yeah, good rule.  Some folks might be able to handle it but for the majority it would be a huge issue and it would be hard to manage that many potential issues all at once.

A friend of mine who is down there competing is a great swimmer. Bummer.

I assume they have started the race by now. I hear it will be a time trial start on the bike, 5 seconds apart.

I am trying to see some kind of coverage of the race, but nothing is working (maybe its just my computer/internet). Anyone have any thoughts on this?

apparently the "live stream" is just a finish line camera.  The have athlete tracking but I bet that it is just the main points, like transition, which doesn't help much in such a long race.  I have yet to find any real race coverage.  would love to hear about it if someone finds a source.

Yeah, the person I am following is also a top swimmer so it will be a totally different race for her today.

x2.  Coming out of a 4K swim wet and getting on a bike in 40 degree temps, there would be a lot of carnage, especially since triathletes seem unable to dress for the conditions    MY masters coach is there, he's fast but his strength is the swim so it's a big disadvantage.

mychiptime.com has some athlete tracking although I it was having trouble.  It does have the pros' times listed now.  With the time trial start, I bet they won't have the rest of the results finalized til late tonight.

I read that there was also a question of the water quality. With the cost of entry you would expect better race coverage. I hope it was a premier event in person because it was sub-par trying to follow athletes from afar.
