Office Pet Peeves...feel free to add yours

1. People who spend 5 minutes filling up their Brita Filter using the public water/ice machine WHEN THE WATER COMING OUT OF THE MACHINE IS ALREADY FILTERED

2. People who put their suitcase-sized lunch bag in the communal fridge, leaving little space for those of us with small lunch bags

3. The annoying woman down the aisle who feels a need to comment on EVERYTHING that is cooked in the microwave

4. Bosses who use the promise of money to entice someone to stay in their present position, and then when that person has decided to stay, forget all about the promised money.

For #3, try bringing in leftover anchovie pizza, just to raise the comments to a new level.

Try squid or fermented shrimp paste of any Asian origin for that matter.  It once triggered the toxic gas alarm in my boyfriend's company when a Vietmanese employee micro-waved his lunch......

Oh yeah, and those who spill food all over the microwave oven by heating up too much and not cleaning up after.

Those who make an ob/gyn appointments through the phone in the cubical area and proceed to describe every symptom they have.

That woman who keeps leaving piles of laundry in the middle of my office just so that I might be willing to do a load or two during the day.

working from a home office != not working (for the geeks in the crowd)

2. People who put their suitcase-sized lunch bag in the communal fridge, leaving little space for those of us with small lunch bags

2a. People who put their lunch bags in the mini-fridge. Really? label your food and put in in there- not all of it needs to be refrigerated.

2b. People who never never never clean the office fridge even tho they use it most.

People who use conference rooms as classrooms and/or for meetings then shoot you dirty looks when your shoes click to loudly or your conversation with a coworker is disturbing their lecture/meeting. CLOSE THE DOOR.

People who come into your cube/office when you're in the middle of inhaling your lunch and say "I don't want to keep you while you're eating but...." and then they go on FOREVER and won't leave you alone.

People who clip their fingernails in their cubicle.  That "plink, plink, plink" sound travels and drives me crazy!  Do your personal grooming at home!

People who can't reload the office printer with paper/toner or follow the directions on the screen to fix the error.

People who print out 500 page documents during busy office hours (send it to print services or do it after 4pm).

Office mates that ask personal/prying questions.  My cube mate just had a baby, so I get the "So when are YOU having a baby?" question a lot.  None of your F$%*ING business!!!

A guy at work (okay my immediate supervisor) doesn't know enough about the job we do to form a professional opinion about anything. Often he asks for my opinion.  A week later, he calls me aside to give me his opinion about something and he doesn't remember that the opinion he is giving me is word for word, the opinion I gave him a week ago.  That happens a lot. Pretty much any time there is an issue about which someone might have an opinion.

I like it even more when I tell him I was the one who gave him that opinion, and I get the blank "how do I change the subject without looking like a complete jacka$$" stare.

Example: A while back we were talking about the quality of an ultrasound image on a new device we use to start deep intravenous lines. He had heard there was a problem with the image quality and he sought my opinion. So I threw in a "made up" word and told him I thought it was a "modulation" issue with the ultrasound probe. Sure enough, about a week later he came and told me he thought the problem with the ultrasound was a modulation issue. I asked him what he was talking about, pulled out the manual and oddly enough, there was nothing in the instructions about image modulation. Yeah I'm kinda mean sometimes......

You should try being on the "professional" end of that.

Yes, professional....that's it.
